5 Dollar Wrestling

5 Dollar Wrestling is to bad professional wrestling like how Mystery Science Theater 3000 is to bad movies. Colt Cabana and Marty DeRosa provide entertaining commentary over wrestling so bad that you can't help but take enjoyment in watching it.
This is a two-disk set that contains both the Heroes of Burke County and The Reunion show brought to you by 5 Dollar Wrestling. Whether you're a fan of professional wrestling or not, I'm pretty confident that you'll be amused by this very entertaining set. I'm not gonna say anything else except that Hammer is, without a shadow of a doubt, my new hero in the world of professional wrestling. Want to see why? Take a gander...

3PW: Pro-Pain Pro Wrestling

My thoughts on 3PW: For those who don't know, 3PW was basically an unofficial continuation of ECW run by the Blue Meanie and Jasmine St. Claire. As such, the DVD's feel like ECW shows; you'll get a good mixture of high-spots, pure wrestling, and, of course, hardcore brawls. It's also got a good roster of old ECW talent and up-and-coming (at the time) indy workers. If you liked ECW (and not the WWE's awful re-creation of it) then it may be worth your while to try and track 3PW stuff down.

AJW: All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling

If you think that women can't put on a wrestling match as good as men, then you need to watch some AJW. AJW went out of business a few years ago, but if you watch some of their footage from the early 90's, you'll have difficulty finding better matches (from men or women) in any other promotion of its time. Both WCW and WWF had brief working relationships with AJW for their Women's divisions.

CHIKARA

My thoughts on CHIKARA: I need more CHIKARA footage. I LOVE CHIKARA. CHIKARA is a promotion run by Mike Quackenbush that is a solid mixture of american indy-style, lucha-style, and comedy-style wrestling. If you want to see quality wrestling matches, CHIKARA is a great promotion to follow. If you're looking for comedy in your wrestling, CHIKARA is a fantastic place to watch. If you like lucha libre, but want to watch American indy wrestlers compete in that style, you need to check out CHIKARA. I've seen much of CHIKARA, so much, in fact, that I believe the number of DVDs I have from that promotion rivals that of the WWF/WWE. Eventually, I'll get entries on Listal for all of them so I can back up that claim.

CZW: Combat Zone Wrestling

This was during the heyday of CZW. Their roster was packed with awesome talent, and great workers from bigger companies like WWE and ECW occasionally made appearances for the promotion to help put the CZW talent over. In this DVD, both Yoshihiro Tajiri and Super Crazy (as well as another, surprise guest) are here for that reason. This event isn't perfect, but it's a solid card with some solid action found within. It's definitely worth a watch.

Dragon Gate

Toryumon, Dragon Gate, and Dragon Gate USA stuff will be placed here. Ultimo Dragon formed a wrestling promotion in Japan called Toryumon, which evolved into Dragon Gate. Eventually, a U.S. branch of the promotion was created called Dragon Gate USA.
I actually attended this event, and you can occasionally see me front row in the crowd. If you happen to watch this event, look for the guy with a giant beard, wearing a green jacket...That'd be me. Anyway, this was a pretty good show. Good action all around, and the 6-man tag main event was easily match of the year-worthy. Dragon Gate will be returning to Milwaukee on September 11, 2011...I've already got front row tickets for their return to the dairy state.

MATCH OF THE DVD:
BxB Hulk, Masato Yoshino & Naruki Doi vs. Shingo, YAMATO & Akira Tozawa

I've made this bold statement before, and I'll say it again. In my opinion, this is the best pay-per-view from any promotion, of all-time. Well, at least from what PPVs I've seen, which is most. With the exception of one below-par match (Douglas vs. Pitbull #2) Barely Legal is pretty much near perfection in executing its goal: establish the promotion and the wrestlers within. This was ECW's first PPV and an absolutely great card. There's a reason that WWE re-released this event packaged in with their second One Night Stand DVD; it's great. But, for the pure experience, finding the original ECW release of the DVD (without the generic WWE entrance themes dubbed in) is probably the best route to go.

That being said, I stumbled across the pre-pay per view show on YouTube, so here it is in its entirety, in hopes on selling you on the idea to go out and get this DVD.

MATCH OF THE DVD:
Sabu vs. Terry Funk - Barbed Wire Match
(Not necessarily a great match, but it just needs to be seen to be believed...Terry Funk is so entangled in the barbed wire that he actually has to be be cut free from it when the match is over.)

I own way too many wrestling videos...I've still got to go through 'em all and list 'em here...A lot of them seem to need custom entries unless they're a release from the mighty WWE. Anyway, I may eventually add little reviews or thoughts of the shows as time goes on...But for now it's just a bare-bones list for my own personal reference. For now, I'm just going to try and let off what I found to be the best match on the DVD/VHS/BluRay.

I've got a looooong way to go before this is complete.

Just an additional note, I've started to post videos from these DVDs in the list. If you watch the video and think it looks interesting and want to see more, buy the DVD...Especially if it's of a promotion you've never heard of before. Any wrestling organization that isn't the WWE can usually use any cash you can throw their way in DVD sales, so if you like what you see, support 'em.

My custom tapes aren't included in here. I've got at least a hundred VHS tapes of wrestling taped off of television from the 70s, 80s, and 90s either by myself or bought off of eBay back before that stuff was banned. Since they weren't commercial releases, I'm not going to waste space in the Listal database for tapes that I own the only copy of.
