Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Why It Should Have Succeeded: Loads of hilarious characters, and unconventional plot make this one of the most unique Disney films to be produced. It's got some great action scenes, and it's genuinely funny, and sports great animation.
Why it didn't succeed: Lacked character development, had some plot holes. Too scary for youngers, no talking animals.

Why it should have succeeded: Beautifully animated, and sports a powerful, if slightly familiar story. It's not afraid to be too intense, and it's hard not to love the machine vs. rag doll fights.
Why it didn't succeed: It's feels a little "been there done that," and we've seen all the characters before. Critics also disliked it's simplicity. (57% of critics liked the film, but this isn't an overwhelmingly positive number)

Cars 2
Why it should have succeeded: I know I'm going to lose credibility about this one. But really, if this wasn't Pixar, everyone would've loved it! It has a fantastic score, courtesy of Michael Giacchino, and it's the best looking Pixar film to date. And it's got a decent laugh or two as well.
Why it didn't succeed: This is Pixar. Everyone expects perfection from Pixar. The film's lack of heart and complicated plot turned off many critics, leaving it with a meager 39% of critics who enjoyed it.

Bee Movie
Why it should have succeeded: Calling it a masterpiece is a stretch, but Bee Movie is solid entertainment. The dry witty of humor of Jerry Seinfeld makes this a very amusing film. And at the minimum, it certainly surpasses the Ice Age sequels and those other animated films that kids somehow enjoy.
Why it didn't succeed: Critics say it's too forgettable, and kids are more interested in other talking animals.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Why it should have succeeded: As flawed as Dead Man's Chest was, it's a lot of fun. It's got some great action scenes, and a brilliant score from Hans Zimmer. In addition, the special effects are superb.
Why it didn't succeed: It's only half a movie. Critics also found Jack Sparrow to be more predictable this time around, and it's not quite as light-hearted as the first.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
Why it should have succeeded: Wonderful score and main theme. It's also surprisingly heart-felt. There are much worse movies out there.
Why it didn't succeed: Cringe worthy acting was a main problem. Some also found it to be a little cheesy, often predictable. It also lacks a true plot.

A Christmas Carol
Why it should have succeeded: Jim Carrey shines as Scrooge. It's got a dark edge, and it's a very faithful portrayal of the original. Very good animation as well.
Why it didn't succeed: Motion Capture has never been particularly popular with critics. It was too scary for youngsters.

Meet the Robinsons
Why it should have succeeded: It was such a funny movie! Seriously, I have seen this film at least a dozen times, and I'm still laughing at the same jokes. It's also got some wonderfully wacky characters, and a story with surprising depth and poignancy. Truly one of Disney's best.
Why it didn't succeed: The reaction here has been largely mixed due to the hectic and frenetic nature of it all, occasionally confusing story, and many critics found it to be somewhat exhausting.

There are a lot of films out there that are generally disliked. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but sometimes I wonder why some of these films failed critically. Note: Critic and Audience data is from the Rotten Tomatoes website.
