Good: Katharine McPhee
Yes, she's showing a lot of skin. But she doesn't look like she's going to fall out of this dress, the skirt is balanced (not too high-cut) and she looks sleek and a little dangerous.
Good: Claire Danes
A lot of women were working the low cut front at these Golden Globes, and this was one of the times it worked. It's not too low-cut, the gathering is flattering, the color pops and she doesn't look sloppy. Apparently, these simple achievements were by no means a given considering what some of the other guests trotted down the red carpet. Oh, and the just had a baby. Well done
Bad: Kaley Cuoco
There's cleavage and then there's "I borrowed this from my old roommate who worked the pole, but just on weekends, and she totally had a Bedazzler and OH MA GOD, you know that old Christmas wrapping paper? The stuff with the swirls on it? Yeah, I used that with it. AND THAT'S MY GOLDEN GLOBES GOWN! And then, I had Marilyn Manson do my eye make-up. So cool, right?"

Good: Hayden Panettiere
We've seen versions of this Roberto Cavalli mermaid gown before, but it isn't any less successful for being familiar. The soft off-white shade complements her skin tone, the little pink clutch is cute and young, and her loose hair and understated jewelry works.
Good: Anne Hathaway
Doesn't she just look lovely? If anyone can get away with unforgiving winter white, it's Hathaway, who balances a simple, elegant dress with delicate jewelry. It all works with her pixie cut and her big smile. This is a look she's wearing, not the reverse.

Bad: Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez made a name for herself by wearing that low-cut gown a hundred years ago at the MTV Video Awards. But let's face it -- she's arrived. She's been here. She's over 40 and she has kids. She doesn't have to try this hard. More importantly, she looks like a walking doily.
Bad: Sally Field
You know the low-cut trend of the evening? It doesn't work for everybody. Especially not when the dress seems to be falling down, in which case low-cut seems at risk of becoming no-cut. I just want to yank this up a bit, and then it would be fine, really.
