Top 11 NC F***ups W.I.S.H.B.

Sort by: Showing 22 items
Rating: List Type:
The first list was posted on 9/1/2009.
"The actors from Power Rangers didn't leave because of their race."

This was from one of Doug's way earlier reviews. So it's bit forgiving. The real reason why the actors left is because of payment issues. It sure did feel like a coincidence that they left because of racial concerns.

"Those weren't all Drew Struzan's Posters."

This was originally ranked at #8 in Part 1. It should have been lower because Doug wasn't the only person to get some of them wrong. Drew Struzan himself emailed him that he's one of the few people that got most of them right.

What was ranked in the original list was "The Banshee (from Darby O'Gill and the Little People) wasn't the scariest nostalgic moment." That's nowhere near of being a mistake. It's just a minority opinion. Sometimes Doug would have to needlessly cave in with the fans for the wrong reasons.

"Why were you wearing eyeliner in the Superman Countdown?"

The eyeliner was still on him because he did Melvin! The Brother of the Joker before making the Top 11 Dumbest Superman Moments and forgot to wash it off. Doing Melvin wasn't worth the effect for him, anyways. It was panned for it poor writing, execution, and humor. It's also basically a poor man's version of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

"There was a reason why Mr. Freeze didn't cure his wife."

This was originally ranked at #9 from Part 2. This is a sign that Doug sometimes doesn't pay close attention to plot details. It may not make the film less bad, but it's still important to pay attention to the get the facts right.

"Pee-wee's floor did talk."

This was originally addressed in Part 3, which was posted in March 2012. The mistake was from Doug's Top 11 Nostalgic Mindf***s posted in 2009, where he thought everything in Pee-wee's Playhouse talks except the floor. I can't believe he waited three years to address that error.

What was ranked in the original list was "The secret passageway in Bebe's Kids (SNES) isn't impossible." I'm on Doug's side 100%. It's not big mistake, and the game was crap, anyways. He shouldn't have any reason to bring it up, especially since there are much bigger mistakes.

"The Full House mother didn't die from a disease."

This was originally ranked at #6 in Part 2. She actually died in a car crash. Doug admitted he only watched four episodes in preparations for an NC review. Considering that the show lasted for eight seasons, four episodes isn't enough to go into full detail on why he doesn't like that show.

Godzilla (1998)
"Lizards DO eat fish."

This was originally ranked at #4 in Part 1. When I first watched this review, I thought to myself, "I thought SOME different types of lizards eat fish." Zoology 101: some reptiles that do eat fish are alligators and crocodiles. Even some dinosaurs like the Baryonyx and the Spinosaurus eat them.

"That wasn't Art Carney in Last Action Hero."

This was originally ranked at #5 in Part 1. It was Robert Prosky that he got mixed up with. He caught the mistake early on, though, but the original clip was uploaded by accident. Also, the corrected dub, Doug only did it in his normal voice as opposed to his NC voice, which isn't very subtle. Even if he knew it was Robert Prosky, the review would still suck because the NC character missed the film's point of being an action parody.

"Your constant spelling mistakes."

This was originally ranked at #2 in Part 1. I can understand that not everyone is a good speller, and typo errors can occasionally happen without double checking. But if you're unsure on how to spell a word, just type the word on Google or Microsoft Word, and it corrects it for you. Anyways, here some examples of his spelling errors:

*In Pokémon: The First Movie, he spelled "Jamaicans" as in "Jamacans".
*In Batman & Robin, he spelled "celebrity" as in "celeberty".
*In 3 Ninjas, he spelled "Touchstone" as in "Tochstone".
*In A Kid in King Arthur's Court, he spelled "owned" as in "oqned".
*In Short Circuit 2, he spelled "vengeance" as in "vengence".
*In Sidekicks, he spelled the film's title during the end credits as in "Sidekciks".
*In We're Back! A Dinosaur Story, he spelled the first "Nostalgia" word as in "Nostaglia".

"That's a forklift in Barb Wire, not a bulldozer."

This was originally ranked at #6 in Part 1. I bet you would learn the names of the specific vehicles and other things in kindergarten class. There's no excuse of calling a forklift a bulldozer when they look entirely different. Also, Doug missed a great opportunity to play the "He tried to kill me with a forklift. Huzzah!" clip from MST3K.

"How could you make fun of Mako?"

This was originally ranked at #3 in Part 1. What Doug said that cause an outcry was "Oh God, what did they do to Splinter's Voice? It sounds like Mr. Miyagi if he smoked a million Marlboros." That joke was just too low for the actor that just died before the film was released. Although he was unaware of him at that time, but he still could have done a bit of research on him before saying anything negative. One thing that really bothers me is that Doug had to make the worshipping gag a very forced and unnecessary running joke for movies that Mako starred in such as Sidekicks, Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, and Pearl Harbor.

What was ranked in the original list was "How could you not place the death of Optimus Prime in the Top 11 Saddest Nostalgic Moments?". Having Doug being called the devil and them him saying that it'll haunt him till the day he dies are way too damn subjective. There's really no need to feel apologetic over an opinion. Also, the top 11 lists are Doug's, NOT the fans. Oh, and he even played the apology clip from Patton near the end of the video. Again, he doesn't need to cave in with the hypocritical fanbrats. But he still did it because he sometimes lacks a backbone.

The Next Top 11 NC F***ups

This was posted on 9/14/2010.
"That wasn't a Victorian dress in Superman IV."

This was originally ranked at #10 in Part 2. The mistake was actually made Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug's. And it's actually a Georgian dress. If he wasn't exactly sure what it was, he could have just said 18th century dress or even double checked his research.

What was ranked in the original list was "Where is your Old vs. New: War of the Worlds?". That's not a mistake at all. Considering that Doug's later reviews are not scheduled ahead of time, it's completely redundant. The reason why the video was canceled is because he finds both movies underwhelming and couldn't find good material. It almost seemed like it was canceled coincidently because of the Tommy Wiseau Show, which was a response of The Room being taken down once by Wiseau Films for copyright infringement.

"Liu Kang didn't want to fight because he's Asian."

It's possible that Doug might have said that as a joke. But still, the real reason why Liu Kang wanted to fight is to avenge his brother's death. Even Phelous acknowledged that at his review of the film. And he review it in more detail than Doug did.

"Naomi Campbell wasn't a child actress in Cool as Ice."

She was 21 years old when the film was released. This is one of things that clearly shows that Doug doesn't do enough research.

"That was actually only one writer in Flubber."

Despite what the film credits says, John Hughes was the only writer for the film. The other one, Bill Walsh, he just wrote the screenplay that the film is based on, The Absent-Minded Professor. So, the opening credits could have said "Written by John Hughes based on the story by Bill Walsh."

"You never say anybody's names right."

This was originally ranked at #8 in the Part 2. Doug sometimes doesn't pronounce someone's name correctly or got mixed up with a certain name. Here are some examples:

*Ralph Bakshi - "Bash-KEE" instead of "Back-SHE"
*Phoebe Cates - "FO-BEE" instead of "FEE-BEE"
*Paul Freeman - "Peter" instead of "Paul"**
*Judd Hirsch - "Judge" instead of "Judd"
*Elisabeth Moss - "Ross" instead of "Moss"**
*Roy Scheider - "Schneider" instead of "Scheider"**
*Carrie-Anne Moss - "Kate" instead of "Carrie-Anne"**
*Mako - "MAY-KO" instead of "MAW-KO" (Some people like Siskel & Ebert said it in the former way from their review of Sidekicks. And Doug says that he's more comfortable of saying it that way. I'll give him a half pass for that. But for me, I just like to pronounce it in the latter and correct way.)

**-Doug made that mistake after Part 2.

What was ranked in the original list was "That wasn't the Devil from Fantasia." This is really no big deal. True, it does have a name outside of the movie, which is Chernabog. But it's still referred to as Satan, like the film said.

"Your mistakes on marine mammals."

The first is "Tapping on the windows can hurt whales." from Free Willy that was addressed in Part 3. Doug also missed the opportunity for someone shouting or a sign that says "NO TAPPING ON THE GLASS!"

The second is "Dolphins CAN punch." from Zeus and Roxanne that was addressed in Part 2. Dolphins can in fact punch sharks for self-defense.

I thought they should go together, since whales and dolphins are marine mammals.

"Your critical research failures in Willy Wonka vs. Charlie."

Not only the video sucked because Doug was unkind to the latter, but he didn't do any in-depth research on any of the films. Here are some of the glaring errors:

*The Charlie version is a re-adaptation, NOT a remake.
*The Oompa Loompas in the Wonka version had orange faces and green hair, just to avoid racism.
*Danny Elfman didn't write the write lyrics in the Charlie version. He actually adapted them from the book by Roald Dahl.
*He got the decades mixed up. It's 70's Disco and 60's Hippie, no the other way around.
*One of the reasons why the old version is called Willy Wonka rather than Charlie is because to promote the Wonka Bars at the time period. And also because "Charlie" is considered a slang during the Vietnam War.

Seriously, there's no excuse for doing very little research. And it's pretty lazy if you ask me.

"Quest for Camelot did explain a few things."

Once again, Doug didn't pay any close attention. He was outraged for the film not explaining too much. It can be funny when NC gets angry on something that is very wrong or don't make any sense. But when he makes a big deal over something very trivial or a plot point that was actually explained, it's not that funny. And having to kill Mary Poppins, Bert, and Mickey Mouse over it at the end of the review is just so forced and mean-spirited, even for dark humor.

"It was Jim Cummings singing the whole time."

In the Top 11 Villain Songs, Doug assumed that Christopher Lloyd and Jeremy Irons did the singing voice of Rasputin and Scar from Anastasia and The Lion King, respectively. It was actually Jim Cummings that did that singing voice of those two characters. Irons did his own singing voice in "Be Prepared", though. But it wasn't until the last part of the song where Cummings came in, starting with "YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!"

"9+9+9=27"

He said that they equal to 21. How can a 28 year old man who reviews movies get a first grade math problem wrong and not double checking is beyond me? If you're unsure of it, USE THE DAMN CALCULATOR!

"The Autism joke in Ernest Saves Christmas."

There's a scene where the guy shows a puppet show on how dinosaurs became extinct to the children. Doug believed that he only shows them to the Autistic children. That joke was just too low and offensive. And it was cut out of the video after the outcry.

(WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN)

What I mean by that is I'm counting down on what Doug "Nostalgia Critic" Walker's Top 11 NC F***up lists should have been. The fans can sometimes point out the most trivial errors, and there's some that aren't even mistakes at all.

NOTE: I'm NOT going to countdown the Top 11 NC F***ups Part 3 because more than half of the list are nothing but minor mistakes and nitpicks, most especially reviewing a movie without watching the TV show is based on. That really shows how bad, broken, and hypocritical the NC fanbrats can be. And that's also the episode where I think Doug has officially jumped the shark (even before Demo Reel). It boggles my mind that he overlooked much bigger and more legit errors such as saying Ernest Scared Stupid was the last theatrical Ernest movie, but it's actually Ernest Rides Again. After Part 3, he decided not to do any more of these lists, as there many other goofs that are just hard to keep track. It's for the best, anyways.
