Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on 9th July 1956 in California to Amos Mefford Hanks (9th March 1924 - 31st January 1992) and Janet Marylyn (born 18th January 1932). His parents divorced in 1960 and Sandra, Larry and Tom went with their father while Jim (pre-born) remained with his mother.

He Knows You're Alone (1980)
Tom Hanks made his film debut in 'He Knows You're Alone'. He had a small part where he played the character Elliot. The movie is now very hard to find and there may be 10 copies a year on eBay or it may be found on YouTube

Bosom Buddies (1980)
With Peter Scolari on screen by his side, Hanks appeared in the TV series 'Bosom Buddies'. They played advertising men forced to dress as women so they could live in an inexpensive all-female hotel. The ratings were never strong but television critics gave the program high marks.
