A farmer’s family is torn apart by faith, sanctity, and love — one child believes he’s Jesus Christ, a second proclaims himself agnostic, and the third falls in love with a fundamentalist’s daughter. Putting the lie to the term “organized religion,” Ordet (The Word) is a challenge to simple facts and dogmatic orthodoxy. Layering multiple stories of faith and rebellion, Dreyer’s adaptation of Kaj Munk’s play quietly builds towards a shattering, miraculous climax.

Carl Th. Dreyer directed only 14 feature films in his 50-year-long career. From these 14, I've seen only two - Ordet and The Passion of Joan of Arc - and these two has totally convinced me that man was a genious. The Passion of Joan of Arc is one of my all time favourite films ever made and Ordet isn't far from that standard.

In the central role of the film are religious themes and those are handled with such a care. Film isn't trying to make you a believer but still it shows the beauty in the Christianity. Characters, especially Johannes - or Jesus Christ - performed by Preben Lerdorff Rye, are all wonderful in every way. Simple, long and beautiful black and white takes gives this film some absolutely fantastic look. Music is minimal and regulated only in few parts in the film and those parts are chosen carefully. Sometimes in the most sensitive scenes there are no music at all and then later again in some other sensitive scene there is only just little and tender violin music. Dialogue is written shrewdly and it includes some absolutely brilliant one-liners.

I gotta tell you that when beginning this listing project, I thought there are no greater films from the 50s than The Cranes Are Flying, since it has been one of my all time favourites so long. I had neither good nor bad predictions towards Ordet, although I had seen The Passion of Joan of Arc before and fell in love with that. I didn't believe that lightning could hit in the same place twice but it seems that the miracle has happened.

The film that catapulted Bergman to the forefront of world cinema is the director’s richest, most humane movie. Traveling to receive an honorary degree, Professor Isak Borg (masterfully played by the veteran Swedish director Victor Sjöström), is forced to face his past, come to terms with his faults, and accept the inevitability of his approaching death. Through flashbacks and fantasies, dreams and nightmares, Wild Strawberries captures a startling voyage of self-discovery and renewed belief in mankind.

Europa '51 (1952)

Irene and George Girard are a wealthy couple living in post-war Rome with their son Michele. After the suicide of the only child, Irene is bedridden for 10 days, before enlisting the help of Andrea Casatti (Ettore Giannini) to help her overcome her grief. Being a Communist, he takes her to the poorer parts of Rome and leads her into donating her time and money to help people there.

Rarely I run into films like Europa '51. This was the movie that introduced me to style of Roberto Rossellini, since I hadn't seen any of his films before Europa '51. And God, if his whole filmography is like Europa '51, I surely don't know if I'm going to cry or laugh. Europa '51 is one of the most touching and the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Visually this film is just pure perfection and the story behind the beautiful pictures is something that you don't see every day. Society is shown very cruelly and the woman in the middle, Irene Girard, couldn't be performed by anyone else than Ingrid Bergman, who was also Rossellini's wife at the time. All in all, very beautiful movie that makes you really think about the world situation.

In our listing project, The Human Condition trilogy counts as a single movie. So this one represents the whole trilogy.

Masaki Kobayashi’s mammoth humanist drama is one of the most staggering achievements of Japanese cinema. Originally filmed and released in three parts, the nine-and-a-half-hour The Human Condition (Ningen no joken), adapted from Junpei Gomikawa’s six-volume novel, tells of the journey of the well-intentioned yet naive Kaji (handsome Japanese superstar Tatsuya Nakadai) from labor camp supervisor to Imperial Army soldier to Soviet POW. Constantly trying to rise above a corrupt system, Kaji time and again finds his morals an impediment rather than an advantage. A raw indictment of its nation’s wartime mentality as well as a personal existential tragedy, Kobayashi’s riveting, gorgeously filmed epic is novelistic cinema at its best.

Masaki Kobayashi is definitely one of the greatest Japanese directors. The Human Condition is one great example from his filmography. Massive film handles massive themes and one of these themes is surprise surprise, humanity. The main character sees life from various points during to war. From the very beginning of the film it is clear that Kaji, the main character of the film, respects her wife and the value of human life the most. Kaji doesn't judge anyone from the political bases and thinks everyone is equal. Kaji shows great humanity even in the army greens, when he takes care of one outcast and when he gets suddenly promotion, he takes care that no recruit should be forsaken and humiliated. The physical pain that Kaji goes through the war is nothing compared the mental pain. When Kaji sees other women in the battlefield, he gets worried if his wife Michiko is even waiting him home.

Black and white images and gorgeous camerawork makes this film look absolutely beautiful. Tatsuya Nakadai shows again some brilliant talent. Fun detail in this film is that the soldiers of Soviet army are mostly shown as quite fat and old. Japanese soldiers are sometimes shown maybe even more brutal and inhuman than Soviet troops.

Veronica and Boris are blissfully in love, until the eruption of World War II tears them apart. Boris is sent to the front lines…and then communication stops. Meanwhile, Veronica tries to ward off spiritual numbness while Boris’s draft-dodging cousin makes increasingly forceful overtures. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival, The Cranes Are Flying is a superbly crafted drama, bolstered by stunning cinematography and impassioned performances.

The Cranes Are Flying was my first film that I had ever seen from Russian master Mikhail Kalatozov. And after that my love for him has never stopped. Film handles beautifully sensitive themes during the war time. One absolutely brilliantly handled theme is love in forsaken and abandoned form. Love is not just some harmless mental illness, unlike Fyodor says in the film. Love seems to control every character of the film in some way. Veronica's guilt is being shown very well. Dialogue is also something absolutely brilliant, when it includes some snarky wisdoms and drives our characters in awkward positions.

One thing that comes always up to me first when speaking about The Cranes Are Flying or Mikhail Kalatozov is definitely the visual beauty of the film. Black and white images alongside with breathtaking and long takes gives this film an absolutely unique look. Camera moves smoothly in massive crowds and crane shots serves that unique look even more. For all that we can praise Sergei Urusevsky, whose work can be seen also in other films by Kalatozov. Actors in the leading roles, especially Tatyana Samojlova as Veronica and Vasili Merkuryev as Fyodor, are all more or less splendid.

Venezia, spring of 1866, in the last days of the Austrian occupation. A performance of Il Trovatore ends up in confusion due to an anti-Austrian demonstration, organised by Count Ussoni. His cousin Countess Serpieri falls in love with vile Austrian Lieutenant Franz Mahler, but the times are changing when Giuseppe Garibaldi is on his way.

This film is Visconti at his best - historically accurate drama. And especially in this case, historically accurate melodrama. What else do we want from him? Answer for that stupid question is quite easy: we want everything. Visconti is a master of cinema, whose pieces of art I can't get tired of. Visconti has shown in every work of his great relationships between the characters and in Senso those relationships are unbearably beautiful and agonizing. The Countess Serpieri as a character is definitely one of the most memorizing characters in the history of cinema and the performance of Alida Valli is the most wonderful. Abandonment and the disregard towards his family and country is shown in the most beautiful way.

Early Summer (1951)

In postwar Tokyo, this household is loving and serene: older parents, their 28-year-old daughter Noriko, their married son, his devoted wife, and two rascally sons. Their only discontent is Noriko's lack of a husband. Society is changing: she works, she has women friends who tease and argue, her brother sees her independence as impudence, she sees it as normal. When her boss suggests that she marry a 40-year-old bachelor who is his friend, all the members of her family press her to accept. Without seeking their advice, and to their chagrin, Noriko determines her own course of action.

When I heard that this listing project in Yhdentähden foorumi was about to begin, I finally decided to fill this enormous gap in my knowledge of cinema: I hadn't seen any of the films by Yasujiro Ozu. For this decade, I also decided to watch Ozu's films in chronological order and so Early Summer couldn't be any better way to start Ozu's 50s. Although, I had already seen some older films by Ozu including The Only Son and Late Spring, I had some idea of the style of Ozu. And that style of his just loveable. How simple is that: where's Ozu, there's humane story and beautiful images.

When they meet another boat that was attacked by pirates, Genjurô decides to leave his wife and son on the bank of the river...

Simple plot tries to make watching easy, but suddenly all the magical and surreal things starts to happen. All that makes this Ugetsu absolutely loveable film. Mizoguchi's style is just his own and I have to admit that I like it. Visually this film is very interesting and typical for Mizoguchi. Nature plays big part and music too to make atmosphere of its own in this film.

French Resistance activist Andre Devigny is imprisoned by the Nazis, and devotes his waking hours to planning an elaborate escape. Then, on the same day, he is condemned to death, and given a new cellmate. Should he kill him, or risk revealing his plans to someone who may be a Gestapo informer?

A Man Escaped was my first Bresson ever and this movie really convinced me from his talent. Thole whole concept of this film is amazing and the realization couldn't be any more convincing. François Leterrier is a huge support for the awesomeness of this film. It is surely nice to see this kind on optimism from Bresson for making this kind of film, which sure is little different from his later filmography.

He fears she is going insane, maybe even contemplating suicide, because she believes she is possessed by a dead ancestor. Scottie is skeptical, but agrees after he sees the beautiful Madeleine.

It wasn't warm welcoming for Vertigo but afterwards it has been hailed as the absolute masterpiece of suspense films or from Hitchcock. Film wasn't a success nether in the box office nor in the film festivals around the world. I'm one of these guys that loves this film a lot. Hitchcock is the master of suspense and Vertigo is one of those films to prove that. Twisted but still simple plot keeps attached and performances form actors in the leading roles are very interesting.

Schoolteacher and family man Ed Avery, who's been suffering bouts of severe pain and even blackouts, is hospitalized with what's diagnosed as a rare inflammation of the arteries. Told by doctors that he probably has only months to live, Ed agrees to an experimental treatment: doses of the hormone cortisone. Ed makes a remarkable recovery, and returns home to his wife, Lou, and their son, Richie. He must keep taking cortisone tablets regularly to prevent a recurrence of his illness. But the "miracle" cure turns into its own nightmare as Ed starts to abuse the tablets, causing him to experience increasingly wild mood swings.

I got myself quite well into the filmography of Nicholas Ray, since this film was the first I ever saw directed by him. The criticism that this film gives to the society and the American dream is quite something. The mental breakdown that our anti-hero Ed Avery goes through the film is shown visually in the most brilliant way, when all the colours and lights serves the mental state of the character. Family relations are handled all through the film also very bravely and family becomes more and more serious issue of the film when the film goes on. When speaking of Bigger Than Life, I should not forget to mention all the great performances from the actors in great roles. James Mason is the one that comes first into my mind but also Barbara Rush as the caring wife and Christopher Olsen as the smart boy Richie are both brilliant.

Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory is among the most powerful antiwar films ever made. A fiery Kirk Douglas stars as a World War I French colonel who goes head-to-head with the army’s ruthless top brass when his men are accused of cowardice after being unable to carry out an impossible mission. This haunting, exquisitely photographed dissection of the military machine in all its absurdity and capacity for dehumanization (a theme Kubrick would continue to explore throughout his career) is assembled with its legendary director’s customary precision, from its tense trench warfare sequences to its gripping courtroom climax to its ravaging final scene.

From all the films by Stanley Kubrick, I like Paths of Glory the most. He is a master of cinema with many masterpieces but I consider that this is his greatest film. Emotionally this film is definitely the most touching by Kubrick and also the cleverest one. Storyline makes your little really think and that is the biggest reason I love this film. I also like Kirk Douglas a lot and his performance is again great in this one.

The defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young Spanish-American is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other. Based on the play, all of the action takes place on the stage of the jury room.

In the history of cinema, there has never been as much suspense in one room that there is in 12 Angry Men. Well, maybe I'm just over reacting - I think this film included at least three rooms, but all the suspense is filled in one room only. That cramped room is one good way to increase that distressed feeling in viewer and Henry Fonda is leading this show quite well.

A cornerstone film of the French New Wave, Alain Resnais’ first feature is one of the most influential films of all time. A French actress (Emmanuelle Riva) and a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada) engage in a brief, intense affair in postwar Hiroshima, their consuming fascination impelling them to exorcise their own scarred memories of love and suffering. Utilizing an innovative flashback structure and an Academy Award-nominated screenplay by novelist Marguerite Duras, Resnais delicately weaves past and present, personal pain and public anguish, in this moody masterwork.

Alongside with Seven Samurai and some other film that is also in this list, Hiroshima mon amour was one of the films I found from local library at the early stage of cinema as a hobby for me. One of the earliest means also at this time one of the most dearest and the loveliest films I've ever seen. First this film was supposed to be a documentary of Hiroshima but as we all know by now, Hiroshima is the first feature film by Alain Resnais. Realistic (in a disturbed way) and minimalistic style of Resnais never lets anybody down. Poetic drama and every screenshot in this film are so beautiful that you could put all of them in frames and hang on your wall.

Robert Bresson’s masterful investigation of crime and redemption tells the story of the young, arrogant Michel (Martin LaSalle), who spends his days learning the art of picking pockets in the streets, subway cars, and train stations of Paris. As Michel grows bolder and more adept, so too grows his fear that his luck is about to run out. But despite the pleadings of his sick mother and the lovely Jeanne to return to the world of the honorable, he is consumed by his compulsion to steal. Tautly choreographed and stylistically rigorous, Pickpocket reveals Bresson at his enigmatic, virtuosic best.

I sure haven't seen too many films by Robert Bresson and actually I don't even think that someone could ever see too many films from this French master. Themes and style of Pickpocket is something that is so familiar to Bresson. Beautiful in any way and totally enjoyable.

I think that this was my first film that I saw starring with Marilyn Monroe. And that first just happened to be also one of the most iconic ones. The beauty of her is indisputable as well as her acting skills. The ukulele scene is one of my favorite scenes ever in any film ever made. Surprisingly this film isn't all about Marilyn Monroe, when Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon happens to make excellent performances. Light atmosphere is delightful and the experience is unique. This film was also my first directed by Billy Wilder, which is also some milestone in this so called journey I'm having with films.

Under Kenji Mizoguchi’s dazzling direction, this classic Japanese story became one of cinema’s greatest masterpieces, a monumental, empathetic expression of human resilience in the face of evil.

I usually like films based on folk tales and Sansho the Bailiff isn't exception there. Usually and not so surprisingly I found myself liking especially the storyline in the folk tales and in Sansho the Bailiff the story is quite simple and so loveable. Visually typical for Mizoguchi - stunning.

Before Psycho, Peeping Tom, and Repulsion, there was Diabolique. This thriller from Henri‑Georges Clouzot, which shocked audiences in Europe and the U.S., is the story of two women — the fragile wife and the willful mistress of the sadistic headmaster of a boys’ boarding school—who hatch a daring revenge plot. With its unprecedented narrative twists and terrifying images, Diabolique is a heart-grabbing benchmark in horror filmmaking.

It is little hard to talk about Diabolique without spoilers. That's why I'm now only praising the brilliance and the smartness of the plot and letting you to get thrilled in full surprise. Sources of horror are minimal and that is also one reason why this film works so immaculately. For that the horror gets so deep into head, there are few reasons. One is of course the brilliance of the actresses in the leading roles, Véra Clouzot and Simone Signoret, and the other is the visual storytelling.

The story, set in '50s Hollywood, focuses on Norma Desmond, a silent-screen goddess whose pathetic belief in her own indestructibility has turned her into a demented recluse. The crumbling Sunset Boulevard mansion where she lives with only her butler, Max who was once her director and husband has become her self-contained world. Norma dreams of a comeback to pictures and she begins a relationship with Joe Gillis, a small-time writer who becomes her lover, that will soon end with murder and total madness.

It took me some time to get known to Billy Wilder. I saw Some Like It Hot first time about in the year 2008 and until I saw my second film from Wilder, the year was 2011 and the film was Sunset Boulevard. And simply I cannot understand why did it took me so long, because I liked Some Like It Hot a lot and so I did Sunset Boulevard. The way Sunset Boulevard stars with the narrator speaking of what has happened, is definitely one of the most memorizing shots in the whole cinema. The way that movies goes on from that is unstoppable. The satiric image of Hollywood is also quite something. Characters are amazing, story is great and simply nothing is wrong in this film. I've seen this only once and so I see that five star rating isn't impossible after a rewatch.

Aspiring actress Eve Harrington maneuvers her way into the lives of Broadway star Margo Channing, playwright Lloyd Richards and director Bill Sampson. This classic story of ambition and betrayal has become part of American folklore. Bette Davis claims to have based her character on the persona of film actress Talullah Bankhead. Davis' line "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night" is legendary, but, in fact, all of the film's dialogue sparkles with equal brilliance.

Bette Davis has some incredible charisma and that charisma didn't vanish at all when she got older. Maybe then she really began to gather that real and scary charisma in her. There is no one to questioning if All About Eve is a great film with all those little twist and clever storyline. Characters in the film are of course in huge part and for the joy of all of us, the characters are just brilliant. Alongside with Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and George Sanders should be mentioned.

A young Parisian boy, Antoine Doinel, neglected by his derelict parents, skips school, sneaks into movies, runs away from home, steals things, and tries (disastrously) to return them. Like most kids, he gets into more trouble for things he thinks are right than for his actual trespasses. Unlike most kids, he gets whacked with the big stick. He inhabits a Paris of dingy flats, seedy arcades, abandoned factories, and workaday streets, a city that seems big and full of possibilities only to a child's eye.

Often considered as some milestone in the French New Wave, this film is definitely something big. Story reflects the childhood of the auteur, François Truffaut, but it's not impossible for any viewer to identify with the kid in the leading role, Jean-Pierre Léaud as Antoine Doinel. Just like most of the French New Wave films I've seen, The 400 Blows is very beautiful in every way.

Gelsomina is sold by her very poor mother to Zampanò, an itinerant strongman. She follows him on the road ("la strada") and helps him during his shows. Zampanò ill-treats her. She meets "The Fool", a funambulist. She feels like going with him, but he puts confusion in her mind by pointing out that perhaps Zampanò is in fact in love with her.

La Strada was also one of these first important European cult films that I saw. For that I'm very grateful for my local library also. Chaplin-like Giulietta Masina and all the other actors and characters are definitely one reason why this film is so loveable. Circus is lovely milieu and it's shown in the most beautiful way. Fellini's touch is gentle but still so strong and the atmosphere is full of magic and grandeur.

Charles Tatum, a down-on-his-luck reporter, takes a job with a small New Mexico newspaper. The job is pretty boring until he finds a man trapped in a mine. He jumps at the chance to make a name for himself by taking over and prolonging the rescue effort, and feeding stories to major newspapers. He creates a national media sensation and milks it for all it is worth.

A priest, a woodcutter and another man are taking refuge from a rainstorm in the shell of a former gatehouse called Rashômon. The priest and the woodcutter are recounting the story of a murdered samurai whose body the woodcutter discovered three days earlier in a forest grove. Both were summoned to testify at the murder trial, the priest who ran into the samurai and his wife traveling through the forest just before the murder occurred. Three other people who testified at the trial are supposedly the only direct witnesses: a notorious bandit named Tajômaru, who allegedly murdered the samurai and raped his wife; the white veil cloaked wife of the samurai; and the samurai himself who testifies through the use of a medium. The three tell a similarly structured story - that Tajômaru kidnapped and bound the samurai so that he could rape the wife - but which ultimately contradict each other.

Umberto Domenico Ferrari, an elderly and retired civil servant, is desperately trying to maintain a decent standard of living on a rapidly dwindling state pension. But he's up against his tyrannical landlady, who keeps demanding rent that he can't pay (while renting his room out to prostitutes during the day), and his only friends are the pregnant housemaid and his little dog Flike.

Little by little I'm more familiar with Vittorio de Sica and from that quite small number that I've seen de Sica's works, Umberto D. is one of my favorites from Italian master. Sympathetic hero struggles with the society all day long. Mean people and our Umberto and Flike. Absolutely loveable, touching story.

John Cassavetes’ directorial debut revolves around an interracial romance between Lelia (Lelia Goldoni), a light-skinned black woman living in New York City with her two brothers, and Tony (Anthony Ray), a white man. The relationship crumbles when Tony meets Lelia’s brother Hugh (Hugh Hurd), a talented dark-skinned jazz singer struggling to find work, and discovers the truth about Lelia’s racial heritage.

I really like Cassavetes and Shadows isn't an exception there. The relaxed and ordinary story is interesting and very entertaining. Amateur actors makes this film feel even more both easygoing and life-like.

Juan is an academic, his career stalled, teaching at the university because of his brother-in-law's prestige. María José is a socialite, married to wealth, bored but attached to her comforts. The two are lovers. On an isolated country road, their car strikes a cyclist; fearing exposure, they leave him to die. Distracted, Juan unjustly fails a student. Rafa, a bitter savant in their social circle, hints that he knows something, and he threatens to expose them to María José's husband, Miguel. Miguel's pride may be the lovers' best hope. Then Juan proposes a solution.

It's incredible how easily viewer can sympathise the leading couple, the lovers with their massive secrets. Both the secret affair and the tragic accident in the very beginning of the film shows how guilty they are but still they are so sympathetic. Film is quite beautiful also and Lucia Bosé is the one that makes this film even more beautiful.

Mexico's chief narcotics officer, Mike Vargas, is in a border town on a quick honeymoon with his U.S. wife. Soon he must testify against Grande, a drug lord whose brother and sons are tracking him, hoping to scare his wife and back him off the case. When a car bomb kills a rich U.S. developer, Vargas embroils himself in the investigation, putting his wife in harm's way. After Vargas catches local legendary U.S. cop, Hank Quinlan, planting evidence against a Mexican national suspected in the bombing, Quinlan joins forces with the Grande family to impugn Vargas's character. Local political lackeys, a hard-edged whore, pachucos, and a nervous motel clerk also figure in the plot.

For some moment in the beginning in this film, I thought that fatty Welles is going to eat all through the film. It didn't quite happen, but still I'm satisfied to the result I saw. The suspense of this film is almost as entertaining as watching mister Welles eating and getting drunk. Characters, especially Cpt. Quinlan and Mike Vargas, are great and the performances by all of them are just as great as the characters are. All in all, brilliant film noir.

Monsieur Hulot's brother-in-law is the manager of a factory where plastics are manufactured. His nephew grows up in a house where everything is fully automated and the boy is raised in a similar fashion. To take away the influence of the uncle on his son, his brother-in-law gets Hulot a job in his factory.

I felt like total moron when I saw L'illusioniste this year at the cinema, because I hadn't seen any of the films directed by Jacques Tati, the writer of L'illusioniste. I somehow managed to like the film, although I could only imagine what kind of character real monsieur Hulot is. Then I saw my first Tati film, which happened to be Mon oncle, and then I was already hoping to see more. Monsieur Hulot is quite a character and for that and for all the beauty of this film, we all can thank for one man, Monsieur Tati himself. Modern society is shown quite strictly, when Monsieur Hulot struggles with it all the time.

In the South American jungle supplies of nitroglycerin are needed at a remote oil field. The oil company pays four men to deliver the supplies in two trucks. A tense rivalry develops between the two sets of drivers and on the rough remote roads the slightest jolt can result in death.

I had this film on DVD lying on my shelf for around three years before I picked myself up and decided to watch it. And I don't understand why it took me so long, because this film is pure machoism on truck wheels. Suspense on the screen is huge but that so called twist that is in the air is so obvious. Still great film though.

'Doc' Riedenschneider, legendary crime 'brain' just out of prison, has a brilliant plan for a million-dollar burglary. To pull it off, he recruits safecracker Louis, driver Gus, financial backer Emmerich, and strong-arm man Dix Handley. At first the plan goes like clockwork, but little accidents accumulate and each partner proves to have his own fatal weakness. In the background is a pervasive, grimy urban malaise.

Easily approachable Film Noir with great plot. No matter how much I like Noir Films, the number that I've watched those is way too small. I did attend in our Noir project, but the number of 40s' and 50s' American films I included was ridiculous. The variety of characters in The Asphalt Jungle is amazing and each one of them is really charming. The heist scene is also very thrilling and definitely the highlight of this film. Simple and easy but still so charming.

Casque d'or (1952)

Jacques Becker lovingly evokes the Belle Époque Parisian demimonde in this classic tale of doomed romance. When gangster’s moll Marie (Simone Signoret) falls for reformed criminal Manda (Serge Reggiani), their passion incites an underworld rivalry that leads inexorably to treachery and tragedy. With poignant, nuanced performances and sensuous black-and-white photography, Casque d’or (Golden Marie) is Becker at the height of his cinematic powers — a romantic masterpiece.

At first Casque d'or feels like light Sunday dress drama but then the film changes its direction. And for that change, it doesn't take a lot time. Human relations are shown in a very interesting way, when Georges Manda founds himself in some crossfire of emotional feelings. The value of human life is also handled beautifully. The black & white beauty of both nature and human beings and painful themes makes this film very gorgeous.
