Querelle (1982)
Fassbinder's swan song. Based on a Jean Genet's book Querelle de Brest which was controversial and once even banned in Fassbinder's home country. Querelle is also his most style based movie.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

This is one of his most aesthetically and emotionally beautiful films he ever made. It's black and white on purpose because that way shadows and lighting looks best. Billy Wilder's "Sunset Boulevard" influenced Fassbinder when he decided to make this film but I think they are both equally memorable masterpieces.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

Lola includes definitely one of the best performances by Barbara Sukowa. This is second movie in Fassbinder's Bundesrepublick Deutschland -trilogy. Originally this was supposed to be a remake of Josef von Sternberg's Der Blaue Engel because Fassbinder always admired how Sternberg used light in his early movies.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

Fassbinder's only documentary. It is order work for television and filmed on Köln's theater festival year at year 1981. Most of the documentary is only excerpts of twenty experimental theater plays. Only other part is in the beginning scene which is satire about theater reception.
Movie about tragic love, nazism and notorious song. In my opinion, Hanna Schygulla's version is even better than the Marlene Dietrich one. Maybe it's because of Schygulla's more feminine voice. This movie is also order work for Luggi Waldleidter. Waldleidter wanted Hanna Schygulla for the main role because he was impressed about her performance in Marriage of Maria Braun.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

Maybe the most radical film in Fassbinder's filmography. It is about modern society and terrorism, everyone using their own ways to make the world better place to live. So this is still a very relevant film.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

Based on ten year old idea by Fassbinder. Originally Romy Schneider was supposed to play main role because Fassbinder had dreamed long time about making a movie with her. Schygulla liked this role because characted of Maria Braun is very independent and all in all a strong person.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

Along with The Third Generation, this is Fassbinder's one of the most judged movies. But they are also his one of the most important movies because for example In a Year with 13 Moons is basically deeply personal reaction to murder of Armin Meier which touched Fassbinder very much because they were in close relationship.
Mustanaamio7's rating:

Movie about identity crisis of a man. Inspired by Fassbinder's will to leave country. Written by Tom Stoppard based on a Vladimir Nabokov's book.
Mustanaamio7's rating:
