The Birth of a Nation (2016)
The film depicts Nat Turner and his followers only killing male slave owners, and military men who were trying to stop them. In reality, they, by their own admission, went and killed any and every white people they could, regardless if they owned slaves or not, including women, children, and even babies.

JFK (1991)
Jim Garrison was not a paragon of justice like this film presents. Indeed, it is widely accepted that after he couldn't find any evidence to support his insane beliefs about the JFK assassination, he railroaded Clay Shaw and tarnished his reputation, with many people explicitly believing he did it to Shaw in particular because of his sexuality.

Murder in the First (1995)
Henri Young was not a petty criminal who was in prison for only stealing $5, but was instead, a hardened criminal who was in prison for bank robbery. He also didn't murder someone an hour immediately after his 3 year stint in solitary confinement, but months later, which made his defense of insanity more controversial and tenuous than the film presents.
Adrian Doorbal in the film is portrayed in the film as being a relatively levelheaded guy when compared to the other two members of the Sun Gym Gang. In reality, he was the most bloodthirsty and unstable of the group, and was actually the one who had murdered Frank Griga; not Daniel Lugo. Also, his wife Robin Peck (Cindy Eldridge in real life) wasn't unaware of his crimes in real life, and even helped him clean their condominium after dismembering the bodies of the Grigas.
Victor Kershaw (Marc Schiller) was worse in real life. In the film, he's just a bully who insults and belittles people. In real life, he was a thief who had actually stole from Lugo first before he was kidnapped, and was later arrested after testifying against the Gang for Medicare fraud.

Sometimes movies or stories will gloss over the unsavory things that real people did, in order to either tell a better story, or help push it's theme.
