"You're gonna regret this the rest of your life... both seconds of it."

One of Stallone's last really great action movies, but damn it's a fun one. This movie still has my favorite depiction of the future yet. It's so ridicules and hilarious yet cool at the same time. This movie also has one of my all time favorite movie villains, Simon Phoenix played brilliantly by Wesley Snipes. This was he role he was borne to play.

"It's not like any mission is gonna be rougher than the last one, is it?"

This is one series that just get's better and better with each sequel. Well, except for the second one, but let's just forget that one was ever made. This movie is also proof that Hollywood can still make great big budget action movie that don't involve super heroes or giant robots. That scene where Tom Cruise is running around the side of the Burj Khalifa tower by himself with with no stunt double or CG to help him out is one of the most impressive scenes i have seen in any movie. Anyone who says he's not a real action hero after that has no clue.

"I want to take his face... off. Eyes, nose, skin, teeth. It's coming off."

John Woo does not have the best track record when it comes to American movies, but this and Hard Target are both two fantastic action movies. I went with Face/Off for this list though since i still think it's a little better than Hard Target. It's definitely the one i have watched the most out of the two. There are few things better than watching both Nicolas Cage and John Travolta hamming it up together in the same movie seeing who can out crazy the other. This also has an absolutely insane concept that has to be seen to be believed.

"You wanna kill me like a man? Or you wanna kill me like a sheep? So. What's it going to be? Man or sheep?"
"You wanna man up? I'll man you up."

Few people other than Stallone could have pulled a movie like this off. It took everything that was good about the first Expendables movie and cranked it up to 11. Just the cast alone makes this movie worth watching. It's like an action movie fan's wet dream. The best part of the movie has to be Jean-Claude Van Damme as the brilliantly named villain, Jean Vilain. His performance incredible. Who knew he could play such a fantastic bad guy? I just wished the final fight between him and Stallone had been a little better.

"Give a guy a gun, he thinks he's Superman. Give him two and he thinks he's God."

I had a hard time choosing between this and The Killer for this list, but in the end this movie nudged it out because of the brilliant hospital scene. That is one of the best action sequences i have ever seen. John Woo was definitely at his best in Hong Kong where he didn't have to worry about all the Hollywood studio interference. Chow Yun-Fat is also a great action star that also never got the projects he deserved in Hollywood.

"Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?"
"That's right, Matrix! You did!"
"I lied."

This is the ultimate so-bad-it's-good action movie. Completely ridicules with Arnold spewing nothing but one-liners while killing guys in the kind of ways. There is no realism or anything close to making sense in this movie, but that is why i love it. Few action movies can make you laugh as much as this one in all the wrong ways and still look cool doing it. This movie also has one thing all other action movie lack, and that is Bennet. One of the greatest characters in cinema history.

"You're discharged... sarge."

I wasn't sure if i was gonna go with this one or the last one for this list. The last definitely has the more impressive action sequences, but this still has a special place in my heart for being one of the first movies that introduced me to both Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. Their chemistry together in this film as hero and villain is great. It looks like Van Damme took some notes from Dolph in this film when he was playing the villain in The Expendables 2. I really love their final battle together here as well. It's one of my favorite fight scenes ever.

"Pulling a trigger is like ordering a takeout."

This is one of the most brutal action movies i have ever seen. It's non stop fighting and action almost from the second the movie starts. It almost get's exhausting at times to watch, but it knows exactly when it's perfect to change to a new scene and keep the action going there. This really is one of the most impressive action movies i have seen in many years. I have not yet seen the sequel, but i hear it's even bigger and better so i can't wait to check it out.

"What the hell is that?"
"What does it mean when there's a picture of a skull?"
"Good stuff!"

I have not seen nearly enough of Jackie Chan's work yet, he has done too many movies to count, but of the ones i have seen this is by far my favorite. It's has the perfect mix of Jackie's signature comedy and impressive stunts and fight scenes. I can't believe that man is still alive and walking after all the shit he's been through.

"Yo, Johnny! I see you in the next life!"

This movie is pure 90's adrenaline. It's about extreme sports bank robbers and stars Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. It does not get much more 90's than that. It's a really cheesy movie, but i still love it. It has a ton of great action sequences like the sky diving one near the end. Kathryn Bigelow really proves that women can also direct great action movies, not just men.

"You wouldn't say that shit if Richie was here."
"Yeah, but Richie ain't here! Know why? 'Cause he's a chickenshit fuckin' pussy asshole!"

Steven Seagal has not made a good movie in forever and it does not seem like he cares at all anymore, but i still love a lot of his early work. Especially Out for Justice. This was such a raw and brutal action movie unlike anything i had ever seen before when i first saw this. It's the movie that made me a Seagal fan back in the day. That scene at the bar when he takes on a bunch of guys with a billiard ball in a handkerchief made me feel actually feel bad for the bad guys. That was painful to just even watch. No one could bring as much pain to the person they fought as early Seagal could.

"I told you I'd kill you, you little bitch!"

No other action movie get's the blood pumping as well as this one. This movie is just pure fun from beginning to end. It has everything from car chases, fight scenes, shoot outs and public sex scenes. And it never slows down. What more could you wish for in an action movie? Jason Statham has also never been better than he is here. Chev Chelios was the role he was born to play. Crank 3 is definitely the sequel i want to most right now.

"Let him know. If I ever see him here again, he wont leave alive!"

Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris. Do i really have to say more? A lot of people has Enter the Dragon as their favorite Bruce Lee movie, but i think this is way better. It has much better fight scenes that are mostly all centered around Bruce Lee and his amazing skills. You don't drag the movie down by pretending that someone like John Saxon can fight as well as Bruce Lee. This is just Bruce Lee kicking ass with the help of his trusty nunchucks.

"Put... the bunny... back... in the box."

This is my favorite Die Hard knock off. Die Hard on a prison plane. That sounds so badass, and they fucking deliver on that. Nicolas Cage has never been better (when it comes to his action movie) and John Malkovich get's to go as over-the-top as he wants to as the villain. But it's not just those two that are good, this movie is filled with great character. The action sequences are the best part of the movie though. They are fantastic. Also, who would have ever though Say Anything star John Cusack would be the perfect fit for an action movie one day.

"You're not trying to draw a psycho pension! You really are crazy!"

By far my all time favorite buddy cop movie. It just does not get much better than Murtaugh and Riggs when it comes to those. They are the perfect mix of by-the-books older cop and reckless younger cop, and they chemistry is unmatched by any other movie. It's the roles Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were born to play. The script by Shane Black and direction from Richard Donner are also perfect. This is the ultimate 80's cop movie and nothing is ever gonna touch it there. Brilliant character, funny dialogue and great action. This movie nails it all.

"You're bleeding, man. You're hit."
"I ain't got time to bleed."

As much as i love The Expendables franchise, this is what they should have been. Just a group of tough guys out in the woods getting picked off one by one. The Predator is my favorite movie monster and that is really only thanks to this movie. None of the other movies he has appeared in has really been that good, and that really is a shame. My dream is to one day at least get one more fantastic film with the Predator. But hey, at least this movie is fantastic. It's the perfect mix of a Schwarzenegger action movie and a monster movie.

"I heard you can get killed at that Kumite."
"Only if you fuck up."

This is the movie that made me a life long Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. This really is just the movie version of a fighting game like Tekken or Street Fighter and it's perfect. It's pretty much 80% fight scenes with some very cheesy dialogue and hilariously bad acting in between. And all the fight scenes are great and unique because, just like a fighting game, all the fighter have different fighting styles. It's what MMA could have been if not every single fight there ended up with the fighter rolling around with each other on the ground. This really is a must see for all fighting movie fans and for fans of cheesy 80's movies.

"Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe."

Considering what Rambo turned into with the sequels, this feels more like an anti-Rambo movie. Unlike the sequels where he kills tons and tons of guys left and right, here he only kills one guy. And that was by accident. But this movie still manages to be a way better action movie than it's sequels. It didn't need a huge body count because it had a lot of tension throughout it, great action set pieces and a story that makes you relate to Rambo. You really feel for this guy who just wanted to be left alone after coming home from the Vietnam war only to be bullied and pushed over the line by the local police force. You really wanted him to kill all those guys, but he didn't. Even with all the shit they put him through, he shows them mercy. It's a fantastic and intense action movie that stays away from the cliches.

"Is it dead?"
"Terminated."

I don't know why they keep trying to make more sequels for this. You just can't improve upon perfection. I love this movie. It is a cinematic masterpiece and the reason action movies deserves a better rep than they are getting. Movies like this are just not made anymore. Huge blockbusters with mostly practical effects. If you want a scene where a huge semi trailer is chasing a motorcycle of a bridge these days it's all done of green screen with CG. That loses a lot of what used to make action movies so great. You don't get the sense of danger the characters are in when you can see that it's all just computer effects. Arnold Schwarzenegger has perfected his role from the first movie doing something that is very rarely seen in sequels, turning the bad guy into the good guy. And it's done perfectly and makes sense for the story. This is the perfect example of how to make a sequel to a great movie and manage to make it even bigger and better.

"Do you really think you have a chance against us, Mr. Cowboy?"
"Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker."

So here it is. My all time favorite action movie is Die Hard. I was actually thinking for a long time if a should put this or Terminator 2 in the top spot, but in the end i had to go with the one i actually watch every year and never get tired of. This is essential viewing at my house around every Christmas. John McClane also has to be my all time favorite movie character. No one could have ever played him but Bruce Willis. He really was the perfect choice for the role. And Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber as well. He definitely is my favorite movie villain ever. So smart, cool and calculated. Often when you get characters like this in action movies the actors that play them tend to play the character as over-the-top as they can, and that is fine for some movies, but Rickman knows exactly how to play this character. But by far the best part of this movie has to be the action. No movie get's my blood pumping as well as this one. It manages to great some of the best action sequences ever in the smallest of spaces. You feel the claustrophobic danger that John McClane must feel for most of this movie. And never has i seen a main character get as beat up as McClane does here. There is just no end to this mans suffering. There is not a single part of his body that is not bused, cut or bloody by the end. And it is perfect!
