City Lights (1931)
The way I see it, this is Chaplin's best work, not only because it is Chaplin's greatest portrayal of the Tramp in his career, but because of its perfect mix of hilarious and intelligent slapstick comedy and a very emotional, romantic story. With no doubt this is my favorite romantic comedy of all time and one of the few movies I can rank a perfect score.

M (1931)
With no doubt the greatest Fritz' cinematic masterpiece. A thriller with a very powerful theme and with such a heavy and disturbing atmosphere that will surprise and shock you.
Veed's rating:
Regarded by many as one of the funniest movies of all time as Chaplin's funniest work. I don't completely agree, but it's one of the greatest comedies I've watched that's for sure. Slapstick comedy at its best with interesting themes behind it: society's industrialisation and its dependence upon it, the american dream, friendship and determination.
One of my favorite comedies, on my Chaplin's top 3, on my 1930 top 10, a movie worthy of praise for its comedy and intelligence.

A view of the horrors of war, in this case through the eyes of a german youngster. This movie clearly shows that in the real world, the concept of war is not as simple as having a good side and a bad side fighintg for something, we're talking about men killing men, youth losing its innocense and hell breaking loose for both sides.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
Man what a ride! The last sequence is literally breath-taking! And at the same time an incredible enjoyable movie to watch, for the characters, funny moments and great quotes. This is how a movie should be!
Veed's rating:
Fury (1936)
Fritz Lang has a special skill for making movies with suspense and obscure characters. This is one of those.
Veed's rating:
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Epic story, outstanding performances. I won't say it's the best movie ever or the best of 30's (well I'd say it's the best of its year), but it was a superb long movie. I didn't feel too emotional overall, mostly because some of the drama towards the end feels forced, and I usually get all emotional with sad stories. Great watch nevertheless, I had to make 3 pauses though :P
Veed's rating:
Frankenstein (1931)
A Classic of horror and not only. A groundbreaking performance from Boris Karloff and a story with a dark, disturbing feeling that it's hard to find in horror movies today.
Veed's rating:
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
A great follow up to the original Frankenstein with its great disturbing and twisted characters. I just think this movie lacked some of the horror that made the first one a great horror movie.
Veed's rating:
The Wizard of Oz (1939)
A classic fantasy tale, amazing technical achievement for its time (pretty much like Gone With the Wind) and very sweet characters. Just doesn't feel so incredible today.
Veed's rating:
It Happened One Night (1934)
One of the very first romantic comedies if we exclude Chaplin's masterpices from the genre. A pretty good movie with great performances and pacing in a well-directed and original film for its time, of a genre overdone and almost always uninsteresting today.
Veed's rating:
Duck Soup (1933)
I was not sure about this one when I picked it alongside my other choices of movies from 1930 mostly because it is considered a musical. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it's a very enjoyable and intelligent comedy with funny characters.
Veed's rating:
First Walt Disney's classic, the eternal classic.
Veed's rating:
Good story, great performances. It had its good and funny moments.
Veed's rating:
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Good romantic comedy. Started incredibly well, ended ok, I just think it dragged a bit around the middle.
