I'm including British-born Cary Grant as he became a US citizen and is famous for his Hollywood roles. Thomas Paine too was well known for his influence in USA.
Of course I've left out a lot of famous names: favourites not "greatest". Some others I considered and/or checked out more: Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, Al Pacino, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, Theodore Roosevelt, Booker T Washington, Susan B Anthony, George Gershwin, Ralph Nader, Henry David Thoreau....
I like plenty of U.S singers and musicians, but turns out surprisingly few i'm a big fan of. And I need more young/modern ones here too
