Psycho (1960)
Year - 1960
Director - Alfred Hichcock
Genre - Horror/Thriller
- - - - - Pretty much an essential movie, I mean anyone who is interested in the history of film needs to see Psycho. This movie changed the thriller narrative, as well as inventing the slasher film.
Psychoās strong points areā¦well, almost everything really. Hitchcock choose to shoot in black and white for a good reason, as the use of shadows and monochromatic symbolism could never work as well in color. The actors are fantastic, Anthony Perkins is amazing as the depraved, unsettling yet ultimately sympathetic Norman Bates.
The ending is one of the movieās best points, and itās almost a little sad that the big twist has been absorbed into popular culture over all these years.
Overall probably one of the best movies ever made, and of course worth seeing, it manages to build suspense even when nothingās happening. It is best viewed alone and with as few distractions as possible.

Year - 2009
Director - Peter Cornwell
Genre - Horror
- - - - - I went in knowing the true story this movie was biased on (Which may or may not have been faked) However, I tried to put that aside and enjoy the movie on itās own merits. It manages to be a fine movie on itās own, but it is hindered by a few silly problems.
For one the characters carry the idiot ball a lot, they make many stupid decisions, such as ignoring the obvious signs of paranormal activity, and not believing their children. Also, the narrative seemed choppy at times, and sometimes, even if I was paying perfect attention to the film, I was still left confused.
In all Haunting is a fun little movie with a few solid scares. The story, while choppy is still interesting and engaging, especially the origin of the haunting (Though, this seems to be my favorite part in all horror moviesā¦)
Overall, it's a fun little haunted house movie that, while not anything revolutionary or stunning, most people will probably enjoy.

Horsemen (2009)
Year - 2009
Director - Jonas Akerlund
Genre - Thriller
- - - - - If you heard about a movie that was about a serial killer that committed gruesome murders that were inspired by the four horsemen to the apocalypse, what would you think? Would you think that said movie was a crappy seven rip-off, mixed with some of that torture porn thatās been so common these past few years? Well youād be partly right!
Horseman seems to, at times wear itās inspiration (and heart!) on itās sleeve. Thereās just something about it that gives it a kind of charm. Itās worth noting that in a day and age where films like Saw of The Final Destination series are trying to show off the most gruesome and horrific murders they can, Horsemenās torture scenes are much, much more tame, as a result the effects used look much more realistic. As for the themes of the murders, Horsemen uses fairly on the spot biblical symbolism.
One of the main faults, is well, the plot doesnāt make a whole lot of sense, the murderers say they are killing people to āprove a pointā But they never elaborate on what exactly these murders will prove. Also, the whole movie wraps up in an ending that most people will find either predictable or unsatisfying.
Overall, I really enjoyed this move, I think it had a lot of good ideas that just needed to be executed a little better. But as it stands, itās still a fairly entertaining movie.
