Gilmore Girls - "Where you Lead..."

Sort by: Showing 16 items
Rating: List Type:
Favourite Male Character!
Lucas 'Luke' Danes

Luke Danes, externally shown as gruff and uncaring, actually has a heart of gold and often goes out of his way to help his fellow folk of Stars Hollow, even though he criticizes most of their actions and way of looking into things. He is like the unofficial "handyman" of town and is liked, or adored, by almost everyone and appears to be quite respectful because of his uncle and because he is one of Stars Hollow's oldest residents.

Originally started out as just a side character with minimal screen-time, he became one of the important characters, even-often over-shadowing Lorelai Gilmore, the *true* protagonist of the show. Speaking of which, despite his on-and-off relationship with her and despite their often-clashing views (he is a health nut while she is a junk food addict), Luke Danes has always been there for her, even more than her parents and Christopher!

Luke has always shown a soft side to Rory and nomadder how strained his relationship gets with her mother, Luke never once pushes Rory aside and treats her just like his own!

So, in my opinion, he was the only fully-fleshed out male character in the show and we get to see him go through a-lot: Anger, frustration, near-death, pain, love, happiness-nothing-can-go-wrong-now, paranoid and the like!

Occupation:
Owner of the diner "Luke's"

Relationships:
Rachel - High-school sweethearts

Anna Nardini - Ex-girlfriend; Mother of April Nardini, Luke's daughter

Nicole Leahy - Ex-wife

Lorelai Gilmore - Ex-finance; Current girlfriend

He is at his best in:
Season 4 - Episode 20 - Luke Can See Her Face

Luke buys self-help tapes to help him perform better. I didn't see this coming and it raised a-lot of eyebrows and WTF? moments as the self-help tapes really start working and Luke communicates with Lorelai in a much more confident manner which leaves her, and the audience, stunned! If that isn't enough, Luke then passes it down to his nephew, Jess, who, at first rejects, but finally succumbs to it, just like his uncle!

Favourite Female Character!
Sookie St. James

Lorelai's sweet-hearted, klutzy scatter-brain best friend. No, more than a best friend. More closer than her own kin. Sookie knows Lorelai so well that she can easily spot when the latter is joking or being serious and this is highlighted in the Season 2 episode Red Light on a Wedding Night when Lorelai calls Sookie and tells her that the wedding with Max is off and Sookie, almost nonchalantly, knocks over a rich-layered cake into the dustbin and orders everyone to stop doing the wedding preparations!

I mean, how can you dislike her? She's funny, lovable, smart in her own way and is a fantastic cook, even acquiring the green light from Emily Gilmore, who is very harsh on cooking and, well, almost everything. I personally enjoy their (by which I mean Sookie and Jackson, her husband) sub-plots in several episodes as I've always liked them both from the start and are very, very interesting to watch.

So, in all, Sookie is damn lovable and she just cannot be disliked. No!

Occupation:
Chef of Independence Inn and later Dragonfly Inn

Relationships:
Jackson Belleville - Husband

She is at her best in:
Season 5 - Episode 5 - Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant

Sookie gets pregnant... again! She becomes cranky, impatient and totally out of her character and why? Because she's pregnant. Initially refusing to listen to Lorelai and rebuffing her attempts to calm her down, Sookie finally lowers the axe and then shouts the episode's title:
NORMAN MAILER, I'M PREGNANT! - to Norman Mailer, the guest star!
Happy Vader's rating:
Favourite supporting character - Male
Michel Gerard

The French concierge, and one of the Big 3 of Independence Inn and later, The Dragonfly Inn, he can be either funny or very, very rude, often to the point of being offensive but mostly stays calm. He doesn't have much sub-plots of his own and many just seem as if they were just thrown in for good measure but many are interesting, especially when he clashes, or gets along with, many different characters like Rory, Emily Gilmore, Kirk, Luke and the like.

Here are some of his traits:

Highly professional, follows a strict diet, loves dogs, loves Celine Dion even more and is quite-scared of Lorelai because of her bossiness. He begins to take a liking to Emily Gilmore, and vice-versa, and becomes charming around her but he doesn't get along too well with Trixie, and pretty much every other character he interacts with.

Anyway, I really enjoyed Yanic Truesdale's performance and he provided a very interesting character that the show could not have survived without!

Occupation:
Concierge of the Independence Inn and later, Dragonfly Inn, both owned by Lorelai Gilmore

Relationships:
Not that I can remember of

He is at his best in:
Season 4 - Episode 22 - Raincoats & Recipes

He creates a big fuss about his dogs and their rooms. For more, watch the episode and let me know!

Favourite supporting character - Female
Paris Geller

Paris Geller, the perfect foil for our protagonist. She shows an extreme Type-A personality mixed with sarcasm, bitchiness, bossiness and a penchant for perfectionism. When you mix these together, you get Paris Geller, the perfect foi... oh, I've already said that!

Arguably the show's best break-out character, Paris is introduced as just another girl who is afraid to be overthrown from her, well, throne, and will do anything to hold that position, but as the show continues, we get to learn about her a-lot and that she is not wholly bad. She is what can be called as a frenemy of Rory. When she's angry, or in her paranoid mode, she kicks Rory out of the apartment or makes her life hell, if for just a moment, and when she's all calmed down, she makes sure that Rory gets what she wants, even letting her in to see Logan at the hospital after when she was denied many times. She also has a thing for older men!

I really, really enjoyed her performance and the character. She was so fun to watch and was so professional in whatever she did. The second, or third, best character, Gilmore Girls just couldn't have achieved the great success without her.

Occupation:
Editor of the Yale Daily News

Relationships:
Tristian DuGrey - Mostly unrealized

Jamie - Ex-boyfriend

Asher Fleming - One-time lover

Doyle McMaster - Current boyfriend, and possible husband

She is at her best in:
Season 7 - Episode 19 - It's Just Like Riding a Bike

Apart from her initial appearance, Paris was awesome in each and every episode she appeared in, but she was at her best over here.

The best part? Paris having a shouting match with Doyle with nothing but a confused Rory and a door in-between them!

Least favourite character
Kirk Gleason

Woah, I must be getting soft; Least favourite? Seriously? He is one of the worst characters I've ever seen, movies or TV shows! Anyway, what started out as an uninteresting, and quite bearable character, became probably the show's only weak point. I tolerated him for a season or two but he became unbearable to the point that I used to dread his mere appearance or mention of his name. Also, his story and sub-plots have little or no connection to the original plot of the show and he pops up from almost anywhere imaginable and doesn't leave until he has annoyed / irritated you enough. He is also virtually ignored by every denizen of Stars Hollow and he gets little, or no, respect from almost everyone, except Lulu, his girlfriend. That's right!

Not to say he is entirely bad, he does get involved in interesting scenes like smashing his car into Luke's and almost killing him and bravely asking Lorelai out for a date.

In conclusion, Kirk is neither interesting nor memorable and the show could've survived without him.

Occupation:
Pretty much anything you can think up of. It it estimated that during the show's run he had more than 200 jobs

Relationships:
Lulu - Girlfriend

He is at his best in:
Season 3 - Episode 2 - The Haunted Leg

He's not at his best here but his character takes a different turn when he asks Lorelai out. The one person I had no idea he would ask out on a date. Thank goodness she said NO! because then that episode would've been a coherent mess. You know, Lorelai and Kirk out on a date, both very awkward and don't know what to say with Lorelai punctuating the silences with odd questions and Kirk half-replying, half-trying to keep silent... you know!
Happy Vader's rating:
Favourite guest character
Gil

Gil is probably the most coolest character on the show and one of the greatest. Despite the fact he runs a sandwich store, he is "very serious about Rock 'n Roll". The former vocalist of Skid Row (whose song 18 & Life can be heard in an episode) joins Lane's band Hep Alien and that is where the fun starts. At first his screen-time is minimal but increases over time. He acts as a somewhat-father figure to the band and talks in a very rock 'n roll language, often saying cool things.

One of my favourite characters from the show and despite his minimal screen-time, always manages to leave a mark!

Occupation:
Owner of a sandwich store and the lead guitarist / vocalist of Hep Alien

Relationships:
Has an unnamed wife who appears for a brief period

He is at his best in:
In virtually every episode he has appeared in!
Happy Vader's rating:
Best season
Season 6

I'm kinda torn between Season 4, Season 6 and, to some extend, Season 5 but I think Season 6 is the right choice and for many reasons:

Some of the greatest GG episodes are over here and one of them, Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out is my all-time favourite episode, followed by Friday Nights All Right for Fighting for its great cinematography, the clash of the Gilmore's and Logan's day-saving!

Nearly all episodes are brilliant and this season is definitely the greatest and their most strongest. It also marks the final appearance by Jess and the introduction of April Nardini, a very fun character and a good inclusion to the show.

In all, many of my personal favourites, 3 or 4 are in my top 10, are from Season 6!
Happy Vader's rating:
Worst season
Season 7

Gilmore Girls and Worst should never be in the same sentence but after summing a-lot of courage, I finally managed to put them together but I have reasons:

I personally think they should've stopped at Season 6 and they kinda jumped the shark, or should I say, season surfed with this. The storyline was pretty weak and it was all fight, fight, fight and, er, I think I forgot to mention, fight! There you go!

Christopher, Lorelai's husband and Rory's father was given an unusually long screen-time in several episodes and I neither liked them nor disliked them. I mean, Christopher is an OK, somewhat annoying, character and his scenes weren't particularly great. Many, and I do mean many, of the scenes just drag on as they wanted nothing to do except keep true to the shows tagline.

The only worthy episode was Hay Bale Maze and, to some extend, To Whom it May Concern for its shocking ending!!

In all, this season is good too but they couldn't end it on a powerful note, just an OK one!
Happy Vader's rating:
All-time favourite moment
Season 7 - Episode 20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?

There are so many favourite moments and picking just one is as difficult as picking just one music-lyric of Jim Morrison... but with much difficulty I managed to pick one that not only is a great, defining, powerful moment but also brings a tear to your eye!

Near the end of the episode, after listening to Miss Patty and Babette sing Fever and watch Kirk do a Boy George impression, Lorelai gets all fired-up and takes the stage. While singing I Will Always Love You, Luke walks in and Lorelai totally serenades him. This doesn't go unnoticed as many of her friends look around to see Luke and this creates a very powerful moment that you wish could last forever!

I could watch it over and over!
Happy Vader's rating:
Best character exit
Season 5 - Episode 18 - To Live and Let Diorama

The exit of Dean Forester!

This episode is in my top 10 and the above-mentioned is the main reason.

After a rather-tense, and angry, conversation with Luke to whom he explains facts and the whole truth, Dean picks up a furniture and walks off the screen, never to appear in the show ever again, but he is mentioned quite a-few times!

But what makes it so great? The fact that his exit reminded me so much of the multiple character exits from Apocalypse Now, you know... say some lines and just walk off the screen. It was greatly done and I totally liked it! What a way to "kill" off a character!
Happy Vader's rating:
Best character intro
Season 2 - Episode 5 - Nick & Nora/Sid & Nancy

The intro of Jess Mariano!

His whole character was pretty much summed up in his intro. Wild, rebellious, rough attitude, not listening to adults and all that.

All the other characters, major or minor, weren't memorable in their intro as Jess was. I guess that's pretty much it!
Happy Vader's rating:
Favourite couple
Sookie & Jackson

I know, I know, many people would've expected Lorelai & Luke or Rory & Jess or even Rory & Tristan but I believe Sookie & Jackson to be the best couple from the show.

Both are funny, lovable, quite-clumsy and often wind up with funny situations, like the time when they had 4-or-5 trash bags full of weed or when Jackson accidentally fell on Lorelai's doll-house.

I really love their characters and their little arguments and each & every of their sub-plots and conversations + They're very protective of their children and remain happy throughout, unlike Lorelai who has a-lot of ups and downs!

Best boyfriend for Rory
Logan Huntzberger

Note: I did not make the collage. Don't you dare assume that!

Over the course of the series, our precious protagonist Rory has many crushes but only 3 boyfriends and all have their ups and downs!

Sure, Dean was dependable but he was also hot-headed and quite paranoid + he wanted things to run his way and has also made several mistakes. Jess, on the other hand, is like every girls wet dream. Wild, unhooked, rebellious, dashing good looks, he was also quite unpopular with almost everyone. I don't really like the character much.

Then we have Logan, a rebellious, and daring, playboy, often engaging in near-death situations and has a penchant for talking smoothly than a well-trained parrot. Despite the fact that Rory gets jailed because of him and has to do several hours of community service, I still think Logan was a better boyfriend because he was mature than the others.

I can't come up with other convincing reasons because it's been quite a-long time since I've seen any GG episode but this is what I think... what about you?
Happy Vader's rating:
The best episode ever
Season 6 - Episode 8 - Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out

Seriously, any better candidate for the first position? It is filled with awesomeness! Let's start off:

Luke agrees to sponsor a soccer team consisting of 12-13 year old girls. It turns out the shy girls are not shy on the field at all, turning the game into a (off-screen, only implied) blood-bath, which causes Lorelai to pip lines like, "Who's their coach? Sam Peckinpah?" and "It's like Scarface on the field." It's a totally great moment, seeing their shocked faces. After when the game ends, Luke makes the mistake of calling them "little girls" which causes an outrage among them!

But the real, main highlight is when Rory's old flame, Jess, makes an unexpected return. He disappeared for almost 2 seasons. When he and Rory make plans for an evening, Logan unexpectedly appears in his Porsche. Taking an instant dislike for him, Jess reluctantly agrees to Logan's offer: That the 3 of them go out to a bar. Once there, both of them clash and Logan mocks Jess's book, The Subsect and Jess retaliates by calling him "Blonde dick" and storms out. Rory runs after him and Jess makes her see the error of her recent activities. Over here, Milo did an impressive performance and he handled his character amazingly. When things settle down, he wishes her a belated birthday and walks off, making his final appearance ten episodes later.

One of the other reason is Jess unknowingly re-unites Rory and her mother, Lorelai, who were in a fight which had been going on for 7 episodes, with his speech.

So, there you go, the best Gilmore Girls episode ever!

Worst episode ever
Season 3 - Episode 7 - They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?

All right, the main story is about the Annual Stars Hollow Dance Marathon in which the townsfolk must dance for 24 hours straight. The couple still dancing wins the trophy. The towns most eccentric character, Kirk, has won it four times previously and not wanting him to win again, Lorelai enters with Rory.

Basically, the whole episode was dull and boring. The acting performances were totally detached. Also, the jokes weren't funny and many just dragged on and on but the main turkey is this:

When Lorelai runs out for some errands, Rory starts dancing with Dean and Jess appears with his girlfriend, Shane. His mere appearance and lack of interest in the dance infuriates Rory so much that she just won't shut up about him. Sick and tired, Dean breaks her away and, in an awful, sub-par performance, announces the whole truth and walks away.

Man oh man, was that the worst performance ever? It was like as if Jared couldn't decide whether to feel angry or relieved or to just not feel anything at all.
Happy Vader's rating:
Best season finale
Season 5 - Episode 22 - A House is Not a Home

This was totally unexpected. I mean, I knew this was coming but like this? Totally unexpected!

After listening to long minutes about Luke fretting about Rory's well-being, (wait for it) Lorelai asks him

TO MARRY HER!

The season ends with a "What?" from a flummoxed Luke!

Simple as that, but what a great end to a season!

I recently stumbled upon one of Gaby's list in which she had dedicated it to her favourite TV show, F.R.I.E.N.D.S and I just fell in love with it!

You can see it here:
FRIENDS - I'll be there for you...

I loved the idea, and the outlook so much, that I had to make one of my own. So, I hope you enjoy my list and check out her's too while you're at it!

And yes, I asked for her permission to make mine as identical as possible, so don't be a Sherlock!

This is my tribute to my favorite TV show ever.
I watched every single episode. I remember all the lines. I have all seasons on my HDD. I laugh, and cry, everytime!

I'm also writing a Gilmore Girls fan-fiction and it includes many of the main cast, but it's mainly centered on Rory, Dean and Jess!

I should warn you that there are a lot of SPOILERS here!

HOPE YOU LIKE IT! :)
