Not the greatest film ever made but a masterpiece in terms of adapting the spirit of what Shakespeare is truly all about. Spectacle, Garish, Melodrama, Poetry, Flash, Love. 7/10

Poetic Justice (1993)

I have a soft spot for John Singleton so maybe that's why I gave it such a high rating. How can I describe it- Urban. No particularly good performances and a very okay love story. Wouldn't recommend. 4/10.
PulpRoman's rating:

Mixed feeling for Kaguya. The best thing about it was the animation style that I goes back to a hand drawn aesthetic. The story is average and quite boring in some parts. The birth scene and return to the Moon are visually pleasing. Felt myself waiting for something to happen but it never did. 6.3/10

Again felt myself waiting for something to happen. Didn't enjoy this much. I must say Overrated. Edward Norton and Zach Galifianakis' performance salvage some average acting from big names. 5/10

The Wrestler (2008) (2009)

A look behind the the flash and somersaults of the wrestling industry into the life of a retired "FACE".
Seriously though move along nothing to see here. A throw away film that piggy backs off the top shelf performance by Rourke.Throw in a generic hard knock romance with a single mom and a estranged lesbian daughter so we don't get too familiar with anything unfamiliar. Overall if anything just watch for Rourke's performance but not even that can totally save this movie. 6/10.
PulpRoman's rating:

Ocean's Eleven (2001)

All the hype was expecting so much more. Just an ordinary heist movie with a lot of bullshit sophisticated robber talk. Wouldn't recommend but you've probably seen it already. 4/10
PulpRoman's rating:

Waste Land (2010)

99 is not 100
Waste Land delivered something different in documenting the life of garbage workers in Brazil who they get a chance to work with a famous Brazilian artist. By the resolution I honestly felt it was just some bourgeois attempt to show the potential of the every man even if the result is faked, temporary and strained. It became more about the rich artist than the people. 6.6/10
PulpRoman's rating:

Chungking Express (1994)

Made in the year of my birth. It seems so long ago. One of the only films that I fully appreciate the cinematography. Neon lights, city life, romance in a fast paced world, the need to escape. I enjoyed the first story more than the second. 7.7/10
PulpRoman's rating:

A brilliant documentary. BRILLIANT. Poetry and a million pictures. Documenting life in Japanese, African and Cape Verde society. The failings of memory. 8.7/10
What was so powerful in this moment for me? The short moment of sincerity in her look at the camera. The pain of living hidden behind the features of her dark face and forming smile. Simply she is beautiful and I am drawn in but there is more in her short stare something real for me to cling to like a how a baby clutches the mother’s finger.
PulpRoman's rating:

I wouldn't call this a horror movie but more of a psychological thriller. Mere semantics you might say but it better prepares you for what you're getting into. The effects of isolation were more prominent in this adaptation than any spirits or supernatural. Kubrick's style is spectacular. The cinematography and art direction brilliant especially in the bar scene, bathroom scene and tour of the hotel. However, the plot stalls for me and I was just not entertained throughout the picture. 6/10
PulpRoman's rating:

Watched for my Film Adaptation class which admittedly is the only one I enjoyed :) An experimental film by Godard that creatively blends and highlights the peculiarity of filmmaking such as editing( music and picture) as well as satirizing film and filmmakers including himself. If you like romance and experimental film making I'd recommend it. 7.5/10
PulpRoman's rating:

A really good film exploring multiply issues such as adolescence, law and order, education and family without being overbearing. This is a film that makes me say "I wish they still made movies like that." The film's plot is tight revolving around the coming of age of main character Antoine as he tries to maneuver through society. Lastly, I couldn't help but fall in love with his best friend Rene, the cheeky Gaul bastard. A must watch. 7.8/10
PulpRoman's rating:

The Killing of America (1981)
A good documentary in terms of image style and visuals but it doesn't really go anywhere in terms of plot. Overall is just comes off as high level amateurish and feeding into the audience's desire for spectacle, violence and gore. Rating 4.7/10
PulpRoman's rating:

The main criteria I use for my grading is entertainment. I am not just entertained by action but by all the great and specific things that make a film "good"... Edit:28/6/18 - Since I sorted out some medical issues with my eyes I'm better able to follow the action in action flicks and thus enjoy them more.
