Celebs I like that might surprise you

I never really get into the private lives of celebrities, so I don't really know what Jewel has been up to in the last ten years.

I remember her as the songwriter that released the album Pieces of You in 1995.

So why do I like her? I was a kid back in the 90's, and more specifically, a young musician. Seeing straightforward inexpensive music videos like 'who will save your soul,' just Jewel playing a guitar, sitting in a chair with her imperfect teeth and pre-hollywood hairdo. That Jewel was attractive.

When I first saw Mandy Moore on MTV (you know, when they showed music videos, so, so long ago) I thought to myself- "Who the hell is this? She's just a Britney Spears double! I don't even like Britney Spears! Ah! Hate hate hate!"

Years passed and I realized that was ridiculous (well, maybe not what I said about Britney Spears)

Mandy Moore stuck around and survived in a business that eats souls, and leaves shallow husks where formerly hopes and dreams resided. She can act well depending on the role. She did a great job as a psycho in the movie Saved.

Alas, the forgotten Baldwin brother! Some of you might be saying, "I didn't know there was a Baldwin named William..."

Well, there is.

From what I've seen of his work, he does a pretty good job. He was the main character in Backdraft, one of the primary characters in Flatliners, hell he even did well in Virus- you try to look convincing while fighting a Sutherlandbot!

So, I thought I'd mention the Baldwin brother least likely to be remembered. Even though he was in Fair Game (every actor has one of those strikeout movies on his or her resume) I still like him.

Why do I like Avril Lavigne? Her music? ... Not really. At least not the stuff she's famous for.

Because she's cute?

Yeah, that's probably it. I know... shallow. I'm so ashamed.

Gary Busey has a reputation for being crazy. A reputation that's well earned!

But his days of youth are far behind him, and now he's like a kooky old man. It's kind of endearing, the way he forgets what he's talking about. He may be firing on only one cylinder, but he's always been entertaining, and that's gotta count for something in show business.

You can't hear the name Lindsay Lohan without it being tagged with scandal this and scandal that. I don't know her personally, so I don't care about any of that shit.

I saw The remake of The Parent Trap, which was pretty good. She also did a good job in Mean Girls, so I know she can act. I wouldn't buy her commercial music but she has a nice singing voice.

I think it's funny that our feelings toward actors have to parrot the opinions of the media. I'm not going to love her because the TV tells me to, nor will I hate on someone I never met.

If you were breathing in the 80's, you probably watched one of two shows. Either you saw Full House, or America's Funniest Home Videos.

When I was a kid I watched both of these shows. His one liners in America's Funniest Home Videos were definitely not as funny as the videos, and his role on Full House was somewhat 2 dimensional, since it was a family show.

So, somewhere along the line it became cool to hate Bob Saget. And since everyone wanted to be awesome, everyone had to hate Bob Saget. This guy was an unmistakable part of my childhood. I always liked him, and still do.

This just in: it's now cool to like Bob Saget, and hate all the people that hate him. He's like the Mickey Rourke of the comedy world.

Back in 1991, Melissa Joan Hart starred in a show called Clarissa explains it all. I was really young, so I liked the idea of all things beings explained to me. Also, I thought she was pretty amazing.

So, fast forward a few years later and she stars in a show called Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It's a girly show with a talking cat, and there might even be a laugh track for every mediocre joke made by the aforementioned talking cat... So, is that a reason to start hating Melissa Joan Hart?

No. If we've learned anything from Bob Saget, it's hate the show, not the player- or something like that.

Okay, maybe this one isn't a surprise at all. But I felt as though Tony Todd needed to be recognized for all his work.

He's been in countless roles, he never seems to take a break. He's like the Robert Duvall of sci-fi and horror movies. He seems to pop up in every sci-fi and fantasy television show as a guest star. And even better, he's great in almost everything he does, even in shitty movies. And he's the Candyman! The Candyman scared the shit out of me when I saw it as a kid. Tony Todd is my hero, because he has staying power, and he doesn't half ass his work.

Fred Savage is probably remembered most for his work as a child actor. He starred in The Wonder Years, a very popular show that ran for quite a while, and was a big part of many childhoods, as it was mine.

Fred Savage also starred in a great television show called Working. It was a funny but sometimes depressing show about the daily grind of office life. The show was cancelled after a couple of seasons, like most good shows are.
Joseph Grey's rating:
Callum Keith Rennie often plays traitors, killers, villains of every kind.

He is a supporting actor extraordinaire, having been in more TV shows and movies than most of the famous actors of his time. He seems to be addicted to work, because there's hardly any gaps in his career. He starred in the show Due South, and had an important role in Battlestar Galactica.

Joseph Grey's rating:
Colin Farrell has a reputation for intoxication, saying stupid things in public, constant swearing, a killer Dublin accent, and a willingness to have sex as often as humanly possible with as much of the human population as possible.

That would probably make any normal guy a candidate for being hated... but really, Colin Farrell sounds like one hell of a drinking buddy.

No matter how afflicted you are the next morning with alcohol induced amnesia, as long as you're hanging out with Colin Farrell, you can pretty much guarantee that whatever you did was tame and semi-reasonable compared to what he just did.
Joseph Grey's rating:

Dedee Pfeiffer has worked in such amazing titles as:
-Horror Show
-Alien VS Hunter
-The Killer Within
-Blue Demon
She is far from a big ticket movie actress. It seems like a lot of people blame actors for their work in terrible movies, but seem to forget that actors aren't making the movies they are in. Personally, I applaud the actors of bad movies. After all, somebody's gotta do it! And from time to time, awesomely bad movies can be awesomely enjoyable.

Plus, Dedee Pfeiffer is really pretty.

And, she is the sister of movie star Michelle Pfeiffer.

Isn't it strange that we're all expected to love or hate celebrities on command, our moods driven by the media?

Man, you should peruse some lists where a few people go off "I hate her, she's so dumb" - "So ugly, untalented and fake" - And all this shit over celebrities- people they never even met.

This is a list of celebrities of whom I either like their work, their acting roles, or just the people themselves, that might surprise you. I don't know any of them personally, so it's just opinion, minus all the anger and hate.

I'll be adding to this list, but I don't think it'll get very big.
