Books read in 2009
Julie and Julia was a very refreshing book. A pleasant surprise. It made me want to do the same thing!!! I even started a similar project....then gave up after a week.
Everybody should read The New York Trilogy.
"The Bluest Eye" is a cruel tale of femininity and racism. Shocking. Sad. In my top 10.
Veronique Olmi's "Beside the Sea" is the best novel ever written about depression and matricide. It changes you.
"My Horizontal Life" was not only bad:it was dumb and vulgar. Trust me, I am not a nun: the sexual aspect didn't bother me at all. I've read things that were a lot more hardcore than that. But not only Chelsea Handler has no idea how to write, she felt the need to stuff the book with a bunch of stereotypes. The goody-goody dumb religious virgin roommate, the eccentric and always horny gay best friend, the hot and huge Black guys calling every girl a tight white ass, it was all there. Vulgar and stupid.
Caroline Allard's "Les Chroniques d'une mère indigne" is one of the funniest things I ever read.
The Gotham Handbook is an artistic project lead by photographer, writer and conceptual artist Sophie Calle and writer Paul Auster. I LOVE Calle's work. But I felt as if she didn't enjoy "The Gotham Handbook" as much as her other projects. I was a little disappointed.
"We Need To Talk About Kevin" is my favorite book ever. Brilliant and enthralling.
"Maus" is astonishing. Crazy book.
Wuthering Heights, Of Mice and Men, Liaisons Dangereuses, The Nose: They should all be read.
