Cell: A Novel - Stephen King
A killer cell phone signal? Yep, it's official, Stephen King has completely run out of ideas. A somewhat saving grace was the interaction between the characters and the setting.

Cold Zero: Inside the FBI Hostage Rescue Team... - Christopher Whitcomb
This was some of the interesting account of stories told by one G-man that I have ever read. Reading the take on how the Wako, Texas gave me chills.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Tick Tock: A Novel - Dean R. Koontz
Koontz, in my opinion, isn't a terribly consistent creative writer. The culprit in many of his books usually winds up being some kind of shadow government bullshit. This is a refreshing read. This book even made me look under my bed some nights...
Mr. Lays's rating:
Supreme Power: Vol. 3 - High Command - J. Michael Straczynski,Gary Frank,Adam Kubert,John Dell,Stuart Immonen
I apparently can't find Vol.2, at some of my local booksellers, so straight to Vol.3 I went. I enjoyed this "what if" story lines, but find that it ended with somewhat on a low point.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Supreme Power: Vol. 1 - Contact - J. Michael Straczynski
What if the government knew about Superman? Found Kal-el, raised him to loyal only to country and government, and later he found out that everything that he had been told was a lie? If you would like to read something along the lines of that, then pick up Supreme Power.
Mr. Lays's rating:
One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, Book 1) - Janet Evanovich
A friend of mine constantly recommended this book to me. Not being a fan much of romance in my novels I took a shot with this one. It has so many romantic clichรฉs, but I can overlook that because of the easy likable protagonist.
Mr. Lays's rating:
How Long Will They Mourn Me?: The Life and Legacy of Tupac Shakur... - Dawn Marie Daniels,Candace Sandy
This is a short read about the man, myth, and legend of Tupac Shakuar. It seems to jump around pretty fast while amazingly still keeping plenty of detail. Not by any means the best autobiography of Tupac, but it isn't a bad add to any book collection. The low price doesn't hurt either. (I purchased my copy for $5.)
Mr. Lays's rating:
Civil War: Avengers - Warren Ellis_II,Ed Brubaker,Daniel Knauf,Christios Gage,Brian Reed,Brian Michael Bendis
Damn, did I ever so enjoy this series! Groundbreaking! A necessary read for any Marvel Comics fan or just a fan of comics in general.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Marvel 1602 - Andy Kubert,Neil Gaiman
An interesting take on Marvel's characters placed in the year (guess...) 1602. Didn't quite know what to expect. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. A superb read.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Usually in a lot of (true crime) Mafia books the Gambino crime family gets most of the attention. Due to the ostentatious attitude and blatant disregard for secrecy of one of the last Godfathers, John Gotti. This novel focus on one of the smallest of the five families, the Lucchese. I enjoyed this read, but I have read reports that Volkman made up some of the conversations in the novel. Doesn't stop it from being a great read though.
Mr. Lays's rating:
The Hardest (Working) Man in Showbiz - Ron Jeremy
Interesting Fact: Ron Jermey claims to have never contracted a disease while working in the porn business.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas - Nicholas Pileggi
After viewing the movie countless times, I finally decided to read the novel. The novel is even better then the movie. I loved every page of it.
Mr. Lays's rating:
American Mafia: A History of Its Rise to Power (John MacRae Books)... - Thomas Reppetto
Started out extremely slow in my opinion, but came packed with alot of information. From the coming of the immigrants, to prohibition, to the rise of power you are there for every back stab and Made Man's shady deal. Another excellent read in Mafia books this year.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Making Jack Falcone: An Undercover FBI Agent Takes Down a Mafia Family... - Joaquin "Jack" Garcia
One of the best mob books to come out in the last few years. One Cuban F.B.I. agent infiltrates the Gambino crime family and has very colorful side stories. A must read for any Mafia fan. Soon to be a movie, directed by Steven Solderberg.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Watchmen - Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons
Almost twice a year I will read this groundbreaking graphic novel. Now I am not one of those people who will purchase anything with a Watchmen logo on it, (the two down loadable games where utter shite!) but I love this story.
Mr. Lays's rating:
The Strain: Book One of The Strain Trilogy - Chuck Hogan,Guillermo Del Toro
Forget all of the glittery beautiful vampires from the Twilight series. These vampires are deformed, hideous, and spread like a viral infection! It's a long read, but worth it. I cannot wait to read Book Two!
Mr. Lays's rating:
Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family - Nicholas Pileggi
So many different tales about the Mafia lore are contained here you may want to get Made yourself.
Mr. Lays's rating:
Identity Crisis HC Direct Market Version - Brad Meltzer
An utterly dark and twisted tale from the depths of the DC Universe. Get your hands on this novel by any means!
Mr. Lays's rating:
Some of my favorite books read last year. Current and no so current.
