The apocalypse and dystopian societies suck by definition, but they make for great movies.

I've created a list of some of my favorite movies set in dystopian societies or after an apocalyptic event.

Common themes include: fascism, control and influence, conformity, survivalism, freedom and justice, free-will, political rebellion, faith in the face of catastrophe, loneliness, abandonment, etc.

Generally, most, if not all of these movies would be considered sci-fi in at least some sense. Sometimes that means they have killer action and special effects (the Matrix, the Fifth Element), but other times they are closer focus films (the Road, Blindness) that use the setting and scenario to investigate more personal themes.

Anyway, I love all these flicks, even Waterworld, which is admittedly a bad movie, but one I can't help liking.

I'd love any suggestions for ones that would be on your list, as I'm always looking for these types of films. And, votes of course are much appreciated.
