The Mother and the Whore (1973)
I'm not even going to try translate this, but this has to be best "kahvilaranska" film ever and it lasts almost four hours, so therefore I'll probably love every second of it. Unfortunately this is only available as a substandard WHS tape. Just have to wait patiently, maybe someday I'll get the chance to watch it.
The Wheel (1923)
Yet another film on the list that lasts four hours. Anel Gance's silent classic just has to be something really unique and fantastic.
I have only seen one film from Kobayashi and even that I should rewatch. This though is his most interesting film, not only because my contact ratings in listal for this are so unbelievably great. This has to be something really unique and awesome.
Yet another film on the list that should get a decent release. Huston is a great director and this just might be his best and final masterpiece.
I haven't seen anything from Satyajit Ray, which is probably the biggest defect in my film education. This should be corrected sometime.
Yet another film from which there is no decent DVD/BD release... It's the only film from Cassavetes I haven't seen and after watching his other films my appreciation for him has only grown. The man was a genius and this is his swan song (not 'Big Trouble'), so this just has to be a masterpiece or I'll be very disappointed.
This is supposed to be very looooong and sloooooow. I have some stupid problems watching Rivette's work: All his films are looooong as hell and also most of his early films like 'Out 1', 'L'Amour fou' and 'La religieuse' aren't available to watch, and I'd like to see them first. However this is only some stupid idea in my head and I have to get around it to see this.
For some reason I have this thought in my head that 3 Women has to be Robert Altman's best film. It is supposed to be very Bergmanesque and surreal, which is exactly what makes it so interesting.
Ordet (1955)
Dreyer is another director from whom I really should see more films. This is on the top of almost every "best movies ever made" -list and there has to be some reason for it.
Tapio's rating:
Europa '51 (1952)
Rossellini's war trilogy didn't really convince me, but nevertheless I for some reason believe that these films he made with Ingrid Bergman just have to something larger than life.
Movies that were on the list but I finally got around watching them:
The Unknown Soldier (Mollberg, 1985) ****
The Rules of the Game (Renoir, 1939) *****
The Unknown Soldier (Mollberg, 1985) ****
