John Huston's documentary on post-war symptoms is filled with stark and haunting imagery. Strange, considering this is now back from the war.

The Yearling (1947)
A little melodramatic but nostalgia rings high with thoughts of this touching tale.

Somehow I really liked this as a kid but it doesn't hold up well. It's not a pretty ugly movie with poor acting and animation. Still, the music is great and nostalgia has to weigh in here.

Paisà (1948)
One of Scorsese's favorites. It's impressive what the filmmakers were able to do at a time of uncertainty. The acting is rather retched but the stories are encompassing and lasting.

A series of animated vignettes keeps us going along but nothing really stands out in this Disney movie that's sandwiched in between several classics.

Cocteau has a masterful touch but the odd elements outweigh the cinematic perfectionism.

Also one of Scorsese's favorites and it might have been the first movie he saw in the theatre... I'm not entirely sure.

The last great Marx Brothers movie is really funny but shows how little they evolved over the years.

Robinson and Welles turn in great noir performances in this Welles-directed twister.

This is a great year for cinema, leaving few films to desire for the upcoming 1947.

Enjoy!
