Less compelling than his westerns but this documentary is still an intriguing look into the perils of war and one very important battle, in particular.

John Huston's follow-up to Maltese Falcon. It's pretty damn difficult to top such a movie; so know that, it was a fine enough film, with the great Bette Davis and always-lovely Olivia deHavilland.

Capra's fine documentary about how we got into this mess.

The classic pairing of Tracy and Hepburn triumphs again in this feminist movie, which is less in-your-face than their other feminist movie pairing, "Adam's Rib". The movie moves along nicely until the final scene where she tries to make him breakfast. It's a funny idea but goes on too long and I just wanted to the movie to be over with after five minutes of it.

Director: George Stevens
His 15th movie
My 11th movie watched from the director

Mrs. Miniver (1942)
Greer Garson is exceptional in this story of war, family and pride of citizenship. The script is also noteworthy.
And I imagine, for those religious fans, the final scene is quite inspirational.

Director: George Stevens
His 16th Movie
My 8th movie watched from the director

This George Stevens' comedy is a prime example of 1940s dialogue and performances. The three stars are constantly entertaining and the comedic twists and turns throughout don't feel stale and it was a just a great classic comedy to watch on this rainy day.

I haven't seen very many films from this year; but just take a look at my top ten and you'll know it was still a grand year in cinema.

Here are my favorite 20.

Enjoy!
