Glossary

Earth-sized
mass and radius of a planet similar to the Earth (appr. 0,8-1,25 Earth radii)

exoplanet
a planet that orbits a star other than the Sun

gas giant
giant planet composed mainly of hydrogen and helium (like Jupiter, Saturn)

ice giant
giant planet composed mainly of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium (like Uranus, Neptune)

super-Earth
an exoplanet with a mass higher than Earth's, but substantially below the mass of ice giants; with a radius between 1,25 and 2 Earth radii

terrestrial planet
rocky planet that is composed primarily of silicate rocks or metals (like Earth), it has less than 1,6 Earth radii (R⊕) and not more than 5 Earth masses (M⊕)
