Case 39 (2009) (2009)
Even though Doug was a bit of a condescending douche-bag, it would still suck to have your worst fears used against you. In this case, having your body taken over by hornets (including them crawling out of your bodily orifices)...that would just suck. So much.

Communion (1989)
Thinking you're losing your mind has to be terrifying enough, never mind being repeatedly abducted by eerie extra-terrestrials but being medically experimented on and sexually assaulted by grey aliens is just so icky.

This movie was so good, but assuming Fenton is innocent and the family is plain nuts, well.... either way...it must have really sucked to be buried underground for weeks on end with only 1 small glass of water a day, in stifling heat, no food, while you slowly slip into madness and see God at the tender age of 12.

While Louis has some choice about turning into a Vampire or not, little Claudia does not. Not only is she trapped, eternally in the body of a child, never able to get older and become the young woman that she dreams of but she is a parody of innocence, on top of it all. When it comes to being a Vampire, I think it's all about choice, don't you?

Misery (1990)
Being "saved" from freezing to death by psycho Annie Wilkes would be bad enough...
...But whose stomach didn't lurch a little bit when Annie Wilkes' "hobbles" poor Paul Sheldon so he can't run away? Sure, he is psychologically tortured most of the movie, but that horrible classical music that plays (hopefully that wasn't just in my head) and her little speech about the slaves and the growing apprehension...ugh.

Mockingbird Don't Sing (2001)
This is the true story of a child who was left, locked up in the basement without adequate human contact for most of her childhood. She was eventually released/rescued (depends on how you look at it), but she never attained the ability to speak or use language properly and was developmentally delayed for the rest of her life. You might say that's better than death, but I would prefer to have died from SIDS over this, if this was me and I had any say...not that I would...

Storm of the Century (1999)
It must suck to be Ralph Anderson. Not only did his parents "lose" him in a gamble with some sort of nearly-immortal "super man" who is nearly invincible, but he becomes the creature's protege starting at about the age of 5. Not only scary, but what becomes of his soul?
Meet your new Daddy! Andre "Linoge" (anagram for "Legion")
Ralphie, no longer human.

A lot of bad stuff happens to the hapless victims of the Evil Dead... I mean, who honestly believes Ash is ever going to be anywhere close to normal again? Exactly.
Still, Cheryl being sexually assaulted by a friggin' tree has to rank up there as being one of the weirdest... and disturbing... non-lethal attacks in film history.

The Exorcist (1973)
She doesn't die, but Regan being possessed by the ancient demon Pazuzu, killing a few innocent people, mutilating her privates with a crucifix... well... I think I'd rather die than go through a year of that (it was at least 6 months). Ugh. Somebody's going to have nightmares for the rest of her life.

They (1965)
Realizing you have been treated like you're crazy when you're not is bad enough. Realizing that the creatures you have feared for 15 years are coming back for you is worse. But when Julia Lund is pulled away into the realm of those demon things at the end of the movie, not killed, just forever seperated from out world? I'd rather die than that.

This is a list of stuff that happens to characters in movies which is pretty, uh... bad. All living things die someday, but what these characters have to endure before they die is worse than death. I think.
