Two movies with the Kremlin and a man named Sergei in one day! :)
Laughably bad, but not so bad it's good. Completely missable. Which is a shame, because they had some really great material to work with. However it's boring and generic, nothing original, no risks taken, tries too hard to follow a formula.

My favorite scene!
I didn't know how much I would like it, sometimes I get skeptical of those early films and silent films don't always hold my attention. A Trip to the Moon as absolutely perfect. It was like being a child and seeing a dream I had come to life right in front of me with enchanting music and I was completely lost, I think the rest of my class thought I was on something with my insanely happy grin and joyous laughter through the whole ten minutes. Its magic is like nothing I've seen in any movie before it.

It is a man with a movie camera- I am not sure what else to say. I cannot rate it poorly because it is a monumental step in the making of cinema, but it is not at all a film I'd watch if it wasn't screened in class. It's a bit of history and not a bit of entertainment.

I was surprised how much I loved Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. Personally it doesn't have a lot of rewatch value for me, but it was a really funny parody the first time around, and I'd recommend it.

Just finished watching this for the second time (March 25). It's like watching a whole new movie. I liked it much better this time. Everyone I know who's seen this said it put them to sleep at some point, and the first time I watched I had to agree, since I saw a 10:45 PM showing. I couldn't follow anything that happened. Second time around, I paid attention. I am still pretty confused. But, I can see its complexity now. It's an interesting story and beautifully made.

I'm not sure if Dylan Dog felt like it was taking itself too seriously because 1) it was, 2) Brandon Routh seems to be overacting or maybe channeling his Scot Pilgrim character or 3) I have not enjoyed a character played by Sam Huntington up to and including this movie. Maybe all of the above. It could have worked, the ideas weren't new but they were interesting- at least adequate for the genre- but somehow the final result was dull. A few good moments that don't do anything to pick up the slack.

My favorite from my world cinema class so far. Possibly because I could follow the story better, I know enough German to get quite a bit of the dialogue without reading subtitles so I could enjoy watching the film instead of reading it. Humor, drama, political significance that I can understand and appreciate. I liked the characters as well, I was emotionally attached to them, and Maria was interesting to say the least.

Probably one of my least favorite of the movies seen in class. For that reason I picked it to write the final paper on. At the very least it helped me learn something about globalization and the reflection of a culture in its cinema.

My mother mentioned that my uncle's new fiance reminds her of Elvira, and I'd seen pics but decided I needed to watch her on the screen. Mistress of the Dark was the first one I came across on Netflix- Loved it! What a character! She is entertaining, sexy, and hilarious, and I love the attitude of the whole movie. Just out to have some fun. Elvira is like a breath of fresh air and I'll probably watch more of her whenever life gets too stressed or chaotic or there's too many rules that need breaking.

I can't stop thinking about this one. It's so good. Even some of my favorite movies from the 60's and before have begun to show their age, and there are some things that make you think, this is a bygone era. But Peeping Tom is so involving, interesting, and gripping that there wasn't a moment I was thinking about how long ago it was made. It's truly an ageless film. The main character has such an interesting and oddly charming story, and his dark little world begins to suck you in. Everyone should watch this at least once, and learn how a real thriller is made.

Sometimes I am disappointed in older movies that get a lot of hype, so I tried not to expect anything going into this. It was actually great. I don't know how they got so much tension, revulsion, and excitement out of this movie but it makes me wonder how other creature features of the same time period aren't as good as Dracula is.

Maybe I'm not a big enough slasher fan, maybe it's because I watched it on Youtube and all those annoying comments always get to me, I dunno. I just wasn't hooked with this doc.
It's also been a pet peeve of mine when documentaries ruin the ends or plot twists of movies, but what are you gonna do besides fast forward through ones you haven't seen...
Was cool to see the critic and "civilian" reactions to slashers. I had no idea there was such hatred for the genre.

Mixed feelings, but I can never not enjoy Vincent Price. It seems so implausible to me that there are so many women in his movies who only want him for his money and fame! I can't wait to see the remakes of this, they might not be as good but "X number of people trapped in a haunted house" is a story I'll always love watching.

I thought to myself, I want to watch a giant monster movie! Well, that's what I got! Not only was it great, but now we know a little more about Norway.
Things I learned:
1) Norwegians are impervious to cold
2) There is a reason Norway's wilderness is so wild and untouched by man
3) Don't bring your Christian friends traveling there

Do yourself a favor and watch, even if you don't like subtitles it's still worth it, the dialogue isn't the most important part. And, it's surprisingly stable and not headache-inducing for a "found footage" movie.

A little bored with it, I'm back to the internet for amusement and there's still fifty minutes left.

It's like... it's trying to be a slasher horror film, with all the blood and killing, but it's set up like a thriller with hints of scifi. Genre confusion? It's too bad, the whole idea of a scientist becoming invisible and crazy would have made a great thriller. But the whole stealth angle was not used at all, no subtlety for a movie about being invisible.

Not to mention, it's cheesy as hell.

Er, what is this movie? I was confused almost as much as entertained- not a complex plot but, what is this movie trying to be? Well obviously, a Japanese western. It was maybe too much to handle for me, one who watches very few westerns or Japanese action movies.

But it was still good. Very entertaining. Beautiful visuals; not just set and effects, but great choreography in a number of places. I really loved Shizuka's dance especially, and the music that went with it. And of course lots of fantastic action.

It lacked emotional depth, but like one of the characters says, "I am just a Japanese otaku at heart." You're either just gonna love it or just not get the point.

I enjoyed this on a level I haven't been before when watching a movie- I think, among other things, my cinema class is finally starting to take root in my brain. Mostly just things like, that scene shows us very well what type of person this character is, etc. But it's an improvement. Three cheers for college!

Mostly I enjoyed it for personal reasons- it was romantic and steamy and funny without being stupid. The main characters were beautiful and realistic and quite enjoyable. The sex was steamy and delicious.

I also loved a lot of the scenes early in the movie, especially one in particular... I won't spoil anything, but there is one scene that switches from live action, to animation, to live action again. It was quite unexpected but very effective.

Most of my friends have pretty awful taste in movies and Something Borrowed is a prime example of why I don't watch movies with them very often. Absolutely awful, as expected. I liked that the point of the movie was to live life for yourself and make your own decisions, but I hated how most of the characters were so bad about that very thing through the whole movie. They even acknowledge how they aren't living in a way that makes them happy, and then they just keep doing it. The only characters with actual personality and strength of will ended up alone, and the two mains who were pushovers and generally bad people of course got their happy ending.
But why do I even complain? It's a romcom, 99.99% of the genre that totally sucks.

Well, it's a war movie and I enjoyed it, which is saying something to the level of violence involved. Not that there isn't any. In this movie I have watched enough Seppuku for the next two years of my life. But I like the quietness of it for a war movie. It's sad and tense but not brazen, not showy. And it did a good job of showing how ridiculous people can be, during war or any other time.

And the acting was great of course. Every one of the cast was excellent.

... Oh my god! What? I don't think I was prepared for this! I don't want to spoil anything. I know this is probably getting a lot of hype right now. But even if you have to wait for the talk to die down to feel good about seeing it, I think it's better to just go watch and see what you think about it before you read anything. Can't say everyone will like it. But I did! It gets a lot of cool points, especially from the halfway point.

I think I went in a little over my head here. I'm not one for mass conspiracy and this lays it on thick- plus I'm a little harsh on fake documentaries. If they become even a little too dramatic or cheesy it ruins the whole effect, and this movie went over those lines a couple times.

I can see how awesome this could have been if it wasn't a documentary style flick. There was some really interesting stuff... not sure how to describe... their stories of moon societies and time travel seem a little silly in documentary form, but could have made an impact if they had just made a "regular" sci-fi movie. Think how lame The Matrix would have been if it was a documentary style film; some really fascinating stuff buried under fake interviews and overly dramatic enactments and people spouting space babble. That's basically where Lunopolis is. Trying to push this off as real was a little ridiculous.

Unless you're really in to conspiracy theories... then you might just love it!

The ending was totally hilarious though. Really great. And even more reason the movie shouldn't have been a documentary.

FINALLY got to watching a movie this month! In my defense, I just discovered DS9 is on Netflix so most of my time the past four weeks has been spent on that.

The Avengers was great. I didn't know what to expect after not liking the Captain America movie, but this was awesome. I enjoyed every minute and actually found myself wishing it was longer. These superhero movies really set the bar for action films.

I was a little dissappointed! I expected this to be insane and full of fantastic action- maybe watching The Avengers right before ruined my standards on action, but it felt sort of static. Like, yeah, we got to see a lot of bullets and knives flying into people's necks, but it didn't have much flair. The editing felt off to me, it didn't show off some of those really awesome fights very well.
Plus, way too many closeups of Stallone's face.

I'm torn between loving how full of testosterone and badassery The Expendables is and being annoyed at their "just kill everyone" attitude. It sort of made the whole guards vs Eric Roberts thing completely pointless. Why should we care that they were fighting if the Expendables just go in and kill everyone? I think that screentime should have been dedicated to some nice choreographed fights.

Things that would have made this movie better:
- More Terry Crews wielding huge-ass guns
- More of Jason Stratham beating the shit out of neighborhood guys playing bball
- More of Jet Li in general
- MUCH LESS of closeups on Stallone's face
- Helicopters crashing into things and then exploding
- Maybe some females doing their own fighting? Okay so this movie is geared toward a 100% male audience but it would have been nice to see Sandra not being pulled around helplessly by her hair the entire movie.

THAT ALL BEING SAID this is a good movie- it does exactly what it tried to do, which is blow shit up and kill people in awesome ways, and you've got to appreciate it for the sheer number of action stars in one flick. My mom and I are both hooked and now we'll be seeing the 2nd one in theaters when it comes out.

[I am suuuuper behind in movies this year. I blame my re-discovery of video games. I'll try to pick up the slack in the fall.)

Unexpectedly good, a true piece of art, a good example of its genre, or otherwise worth seeing: I recommend it.

Waste of time.

I think I'll put relatively short anime series on here as well.
