Awards for Films In Competition

The Palme d'Or (English: Golden Palm) is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and is presented to the director of the best feature film of the official competition.
The Grand Prix is an award of the Cannes Film Festival bestowed by the jury of the festival on one of the competing feature films. It is the second-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d'Or

1967-1988 - The award was known as "Grand Prix Spécial du Jury"
1967-1988 - The award was known as "Grand Prix du Jury"

It is chosen by the jury from the 'official section' of movies at the festival'

From 1951 until 1966 the name Special Jury Prize was used for the second most important award of the festival. In 1967, the second place was renamed Grand Prize of the Jury and the Special Jury Prize disappeared. Two years later, in 1969, the Jury Prize was created separately from the Grand Prize, and both have been awarded yearly since.

Just a little bit more information on the awards given at the Cannes Film Festival.

My main interest in the Cannes Film Festival is looking for new and emerging directors. The award I'm always the most curious about is the Caméra d'Or, which is awarded to the best first feature film. The Caméra d'Or can be awarded to any film in the parallel selections. So, that covers far more then just what is screened at the Cannes as it covers the "Directors' Fortnight" and "International Critics' Week" as well.

Note: Anything in blockquote is text taken from Wikipedia. I'm not that articulate.
