Description:
Popular on the stage beginning with her first starring role in 1899. She performed near continuously, chiefly in musicals, on Broadway until the mid-'30s, when her popularity began to wane, and she left the stage for good in 1935.
Taking advantage of the still relatively new talking pictures, she began to get work in a host of films, albeit in bit parts. She made over 80 films, and became one of Preston Sturges's stock actresses.
