Maken X - Sega Dreamcast

Maken X is best described as a dark version of Final Fantasy VII. It boasts an intrinsic storyline, which can be manipulated during gameplay, thus creating multiple endings.

Depending on who is "brain-jacked" determines the next location visited as you fight your way through the 20 levels, "brainjacking" those around you and taking on their abilities and skills.

Being able to go through the game as other characters is certainly one of Maken X's unique gaming features. Using a first-perspective game engine, it's sometimes difficult to see all your enemies on screen at once. However, a target lock feature aids in locating all your foes.

The graphics in this game are superb and the music contributes to the tense storyline. This game doesn't have the same speed or intensity as Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but those who are looking for a bit more cerebral work, look no further. -- Alex Leung
