The 200 year Pax Romana of Augustus Caesar has come to an end. The death of Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher-scholar emperor, has fragmented the Empire. Disorder reigns. Civil War threatens. Provincial Caear and ambitious generals are rallying disgruntled legions to their cause. The embattled provinces are again at war - this time with each other! At this explosive time in history, Conquest of the Empire challenges you and your opponents to decide which of the provincial Caesars will wear the laurel wreath and become Emperor of Rome. Will he come from Hispania, Italia, Macedonia, Galatia or across the Mediterranean in Numidia or Egyptus? To make your Caesar the emperor, you must annex rovince, collect tribute and defeat all other Caesars. You do this by waging successful military campaigns. You must have the courage of a Marc Antony and the wisdom of an Octavian to plan and implement the march of your armies. Decide which province to attack and how to attackit. Will it be a land battle with legions of horse soldiers and deadly catapults? Or a sea battle with galleys filled with fierce foot soldiers? Once you capture a province, you receive tribute for your holdings. Use the Roman coins you're awarded to buy more men and armaments. As your territories increase, build cities. Fortify them and connect them by roads. Build an empire within an empire and your Caesar's destiny will be assured! Conquest of the Empire is full of political intrigue. Often you must make alliances with other Caesars to advance your position on the gameboard. But as easy as a treaty is made, it can be broken. Who is your ally ...who is your enemy?
