King Kong

Okay, so I am a few years late in finally getting around to seeing this movie, but boy, am I glad I did! Excellent all around movie. I was quite impressed with it in every respect, and I really enjoyed it. Yes, it is a long film, but definitely worth watching at least once, if not more! Full of action, drama, and some really touching scenes between Naomi Watts and King Kong.

A bit of a mess - but not bad.

Too long, some weird choices in acting and character development, but nonetheless equally exciting, funny, sad and scary. I actually found the sequence in the primitive village on Skull Island terrifying. The special effects are awesome and worked very well for me. Far superiors, of course, to the dreadful Kong from the 70s.

Disappointing, but not without redeeming

Over-long and self-indulgent. This movie stands as a warning to everyone as to what can happen when a director has noone around them to say "no."

The stand-out star of this show is WETA, Jackson's effects company, who managed to create a believable fantasy world and fill it with entertaining spectacle. For me, Kong himself is the first special effect capable of displaying a range of authentic emotions.

Still though, the extras on this DVD, along with the "Peter Jackson's King Kong Production Diaries" DVD provide a fascinating glimpse into the making of a contemporary blockbuster movie. And that's worth the price of admission alone.
