City of Bones may sound like your average young adult fantasy, and in a way it is but it actually came out right before the big ya boom that we are seeing right now. I tried to read City of Bones but I couldn't quite make it to the end. The construction is laughable and the writing is sophomoric. Maybe a better editor, but I don't think I was supposed to find this as funny as I did. And rape and incest as plot devices, blech, no thanks.
