She overcomes their prejudices (to a point) and solves the case through old fashioned detective work. The first series establishes the gritty realism and outstanding acting that is a hallmark of this series.

This first episode of Series 4 kicks off another high quality series. This is the only series with multiple storylines. Superintendent Tennison investigates the death of a child where the prime suspect is a child molester who is now living with his new family, having finished his prison sentence. While his community seems intent on blaming him for the new incident, doubts remain about his guilt.

What starts off as a routine murder investigation leads Superintendent Tennison into the dirty goings on in the local government. This is possibly the best storyline in the series (so far anyway).

A series of murders takes place with the methods being very similar to those employed by the killer in the original Prime Suspect. This puts Superintendent Tennison at odds with the member of the police force who believe that she got the original case wrong, and the real killer is still out there.
