Aired in the wrong order, and shown at obscure times, opposite super bowls and against other big guns. Firefly had absolutely no chance of ever gaining a following. After 12 episodes on the air, Fox canned this show. Fortunately they had not counted on the fact that word of mouth would lead to this show becoming a cult classic, leading to protests which forced a cinematic release called "Serenity" Rumors eb and flow that this legendary tv show may return once in a while, but it is unlikely since the entire cast has moved on.

Stargate: Atlantis

The Newest addition to the list, SGA was announced as canceled by Sci Fi on the 21st of August 2008. The main message from a Scifi/MGM conference was that it wasn't making them enough money, although ratings were stronger than most shows on in that time slot. Atlantis will continue in straight to DVD movies, much like SG1 already does, the series ends in January 2009 with a cliff hanger, forcing you to buy the DVD to wrap things up.

Angel was canceled to pave the way for WB's new and original (And cheaper to make) tv shows, at the time oddly enough, they opted to replace it with a sub par vampire hunting show they had already tried to pawn off on viewers previously, which failed both times. Viewing figures for Angels 5th season were strong, the episodes were actually the best so far, with an increased budget the special effects and potential were higher than ever. There was talk of releasing some straight to DVD movies tieing up each characters story, but nothing materialized.

Stargate SG-1

Every season from 4 onwards the makers of SG1 lay in wait to hear whether or not they would get to continue their show. Each year they would find the answer was Yes. So after 10 years of wondering and waiting, they decided not to worry anymore and built things up for a season 11, sadly they were wrong. SG1 was shockingly canceled at the end of season 10 to pave the way for Sci Fi originals such as "Eureka" and wrestling of all things! On Sci Fi!! Two Straight to DVD films have been made so far, one to tie up the loose ends of Season 10, and the next one with the aim of getting the ball rolling on a series of straight to DVD/TV film releases. (SG1 with a much bigger budget!) So far they have gone to great lengths with the movies, with on location shooting in Antarctica amongst other places. It is my hope that they might just get a season 11 yet!

This has been renewed in America, so a season 2 WILL be made, and it has NOT been canceled there. However, it HAS been canceled in the United Kingdom where our channel ITV has decided that the viewing figures are not high enough, even though THEY decided to start the show on episode 1, then skip episode 2 (airing something else instead) and picking it up on episode 3 at a different time. I hope whoever came up with that schedule has been canned too! GOOD NEWS! - Pushing Daisies has been renewed in America and Season 2 starts October 2nd 2008! As far as I am aware it still remains canceled in England until further notice.

Futurama

By the fourth season Futurama was being aired erratically. This was parodied in the opening sequence of the last episode of Season 4 with a picture of Fry, Leela and Bender captioned, "See You On Some Other Channel." Due to being regularly pre-empted by sporting events, it became difficult to predict when new episodes would air. This erratic schedule resulted in Fox not airing several episodes that had been produced for seasons three and four, instead holding them over for the fifth season. Although Futurama was never officially canceled, midway through the production of the fourth season, Fox decided to let it go out of production and told the writers and animators to look for new jobs.

Family Guy

Family Guy was canceled once in 2000, and again in 2002, but strong DVD sales and the large viewership of reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim convinced Fox to resume the show in 2005. It is the first canceled show to be resurrected based on DVD sales and, more notably, the only canceled show to be resurrected twice on that basis.

ABC decided not to renew Alias for a 6th season but were kind enough to actually inform the writers before they had written a finale. As a result you get only a slightly rushed ending to a 5 year story instead of a mash up like Veronica Mars received. They had enough time to for shadow an ending, however a lot seems to happen all at once after everything happening bit by bit before hand.

Veronica Mars was on a knife edge for its entire third season. It had the highest viewing figures in its entire run however a rival channel had started airing something along the same genre of "American Idol" which began to dent its ratings. In their infinite wisdom the network decided to cancel Veronica Mars and run their own reality TV show about the Pussycat Dolls! Fortunately that has also been canceled since, due to poor viewing figures.

Star Trek: Enterprise

This had came to an end but was going to be picked up by another Network until one of the producers declined the opportunity. His input was a requirement of the network picking up the show, and so without him it was instead canceled.

Father Ted enjoyed a very successful third season, a slightly higher budget meant slightly bigger episodes involving more location shoots and "stunts" which were not particularly used in the previous 2 seasons of the show. Normally there would be only 8 or so episodes to a season, but Channel 4 had commissioned a longer season 3 and it seems the extra work may of had a toll on Dermot Morgan the lead roll of the show (Ted) as shortly after filming finished on the final episode of the series he died of a heart attack, along with him died any hope of future Father Ted episodes, as they canceled the show out of a mark of respect for him.

The show ran on CBS from September 20, 2006 through March 25, 2008. It was initially canceled after its first full season due to poor ratings. While a fan campaign was able to convince the network to bring the show back for a seven-episode second season, it was canceled for a second time after that run.

Fox have confirmed that season four is the final season for "Prison Break." In addition to the remaining four episodes already made, there is a possibility that a couple more episodes could be shot to wrap up loose ends. "The show is just played out," Kevin Reilly (Fox) said. "Creatively, everybody feels enough stories have been told. ... We want to finish strong and not just gimp out next season. They have a cool ending." I have to say I saw this coming, they said at the beginning that they had 3 stories to tell, and 3 stories they have told. I would have put this lower down the list as a result, but I still feel a slight disappointment that yet another show I hold dear, has fallen on its sword.

Bionic Woman

Due to a strike by the Writers Guild of America, production of the series was halted in mid-November 2007, and the regular actors were suspended on half-pay for a period of five weeks. The series aired all of the episodes that were completed before production halted. Some sites rumored NBC had canceled the show but an NBC Universal Media Studios spokesperson told the press that the show has not been cancelled and that production will continue when the WGA strike ends. An Associated Press story on Feb. 12 classified Bionic Woman as being "on the bubble" and as such despite the resolution of the strike predicted that the remaining episodes likely won't air until the fall of 2008, "if ever". According to a report on NBC's Feb. 13, 2008 announcement regarding initial series renewals, no announcement was made regarding whether Bionic Woman would return in the fall, but the report indicated that despite the earlier statement by NBC-Universal, production of the show's first season is considered to be concluded.

Originally scheduled to debut in the fall of 2003, its premiere was delayed until early 2004. When it finally debuted in March 2004, Wonderfalls received positive reviews from critics, but had trouble attracting viewers. The pilot episode, “Wax Lion”, received a higher Nielsen rating when it was repeated the Thursday after its premiere, and the show was moved from a Friday night time slot to Thursday. However, there was little notice or promotion of the time change, and the show was subsequently canceled after airing the fourth episode. (A fifth episode was advertised but never aired.)

Very poor and fading ratings meant this show lasted no more than five episodes. Fox have a knack for completely ignoring target audiences so i imagine this show was aired between football and baseball, and perhaps at 3am on a Thursday morning too.

Midway through the second season, the show was placed on a hiatus by NBC but returned on March 7, 2006 in a new timeslot of Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. One episode, "Joey and the Snowball Fight", was shown on a Tuesday at 8:30 p.m, but was pulled by NBC when it was overshadowed in ratings by American Idol. NBC cancelled the series in May 2006 and did not air the remaining episodes.

The series suffered from low ratings, and NBC allowed its option for a full season order to lapse by the December 11, 2007 deadline for renewal. According to trade reports, such an action effectively means the series has been canceled. As of April 2, 2008 the show has officially been canceled by NBC. The final episode of Journeyman aired on Wednesday, December 19, 2007.

Due to the recent 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, Cane completed its first season on December 18, 2007. On February 8, 2008 The Los Angeles Times reported that the effects of the writer's strike "could spell sudden death for such programs as NBC's Bionic Woman and CBS' Cane, industry executives predicted." It was also reported by USA Today that Cane would be "gone for good." On February 14, 2008, CBS released a statement declaring that Cane is still on "hiatus to accommodate the mid-season launches of Big Brother, Jericho and Dexter." In an April 2008 interview, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler called the drama's chances for renewal "a real long shot." On May 14, 2008, CBS officially canceled the series.

Rather than produce another season of Deadwood, HBO went with this often confusing series from David Milch. Viewership didn’t meet expectations and it was canceled after one season. The DVD set is coming in April 2008.

Despite having better ratings than its comedy companion 'Til Death, the series was not renewed by the network on May 9, 2008, while 'Til Death was renewed. The show is being shopped to other networks. Ironically, CBS was initially interested in the series before it landed at FOX. Heaton is the former star of CBS' Everybody Loves Raymond. The network is hoping to open a new night of comedy beyond its Monday lineup, and a Grammer-Heaton project could be a solid anchor for such an extension. On May 27, 2008, it was announced that Kelsey Grammer had signed on to play the lead in a new ABC sitcom Roman's Empire. Also, despite the show's cancellation, and no guarantee of its renewal, Channel 4 in the United Kingdom picked up the show. The series premiered in the UK on Wednesday, 11 June, 2008 on More4 at 9.30pm. On July 16, 2008, it was announced that Back to You would see a DVD release on October 14. It is being labeled as "Season One" instead of "The Complete Series", implying that there is still a chance the show could come back. The DVD will include all 14 aired episodes, and 3 unaired in a 3-Disc set.
