Iron Man

Easily my favorite Marvel film. Simply because it is incredibly entertaining all the way through. It is an origin story that is done to near perfection. Instead of falling into the traps like for instance Green Lantern, Iron Man successfully manages to combine humor, heart and characters with extraordinary effects and action. While I do prefer darker superheroes like Batman, this is how you create a fun, crowd-pleaser!

It's main feat is easily the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. A role that's been so iconic that he has nearly brought it with him to everything he has done since. (Fine, he has basically only done Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes.) While we should be careful about getting too much of it, he is certainly top-noth in the role.

X-Men: First Class

After two slightly disappointing films, we can safely welcome this franchise back! This is one of the most spectacular and entertaining blockbusters of 2011! It 's main strengths lies in how it shows the beginning of Magento and Professor X, who are both brilliantly played by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Particularly Fassbender is awesome, and some of the scenes he is in is some of the most stand out scenes from 2011. (Bar scene.)

This is one of the best prequels that has come out so far. It does impressively many things right. It stays true to the characters and the mythology that's been laid out previously. It brings in it's own fresh ideas, it does have an engaging and engrossing plot, with a perfectly cold bastard as the villain. Who is done brilliantly by the underrated Kevin Bacon, and the score is awesome. Bring on the next film!

Spider-Man 2

Always thought of it as the best film in the trilogy. And unlike the first film, it didn't drop on a rewatch. The romantic/love issues is still the biggest flaw in this film (biggest flaw in the trilogy), but luckily it does somehow fall a bit in the shadow. It's still there of course, but not as annoying or painful as it was in the first film. Instead we get a more troublesome Peter Parker, struggling to decide what he want's to be. Him losing his powers and regaining them and so on is one of the greatest things about this film, lifting it on very high ground.

Alfred Molina does also make a much better villain than Willem Dafoe's crackling lunatic. While he, indeed, was good, Molina brings in a much more complex and emotional villain. Overall, this is a more emotional film, which just makes me like it even more. There are some scenes that are just on the edge of being heartbreaking, when all those people on train see him without his mask. "He's just a kid." And the action is more dazzling this time around...

It's spectacular, it's solid and very entertaining. Still, it's not perfect. It does a fine job in combining all the heroes without reducing any of them to merely extras, and the script and dialogue is sharp and fresh. Even Tom Hiddleston's Loki (who I didn't care for in Thor) proves himself as a worthy villain. The action is brilliant and the humor hits a lot. There is particularly one moment with the Hulk and Loki that stands out.

Yet, I feel that there is so much more that could have been explored. That they could have reduced the slightly overlong action-sequences in favor for some character moments. You got all these great characters, why not let them interact with each other more besides fighting together? The scene where they all ends up arguing is fantastic! I wanted more of that.

While Mark Ruffalo certainly did an excellent job of portraying Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Avengers. I do believe that Edawrd Norton's Hulk ain't getting as much credit as it deserves. Because while Ruffalo might be slightly superior, I do also think that Norton is excellent and that the Hulk is awesome in this film. Because it is very, very entertaining. The effects are marvelous and when we are going to get another Hulk-film, I do hope they at least take a look at this one and sees what made it so entertaining.

One thing it does extremely well is the villain. Tim Roth is fantastic as Emil Blonsky/The Abomination. While I don't know anything much about villains in the Hulk series, I think anyways that he is well-portrayed in the film and worthy opponent of the Hulk. It also features Liv Tyler as the love interest. She's so cute that you could eat her up.

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3 is not as good as Iron Man and only marginally better than Iron Man 2. But I liked them all. It was definitely fresher and funnier to see Robert Downey Jr. the first time, but he still manages to offer some uniqueness and versatility to the role. Iron Man 3 does in some ways feel like it's not an Iron Man film. The focus is more on Tony Stark's inner struggle etc. Which the film handles well, and whenever he actually gets into the suit, the action is as expected spectacular. This is a very entertaining film, so it achieves exactly what it aimed to do.

On the more negative side, I was not too fond of this particular thing, which is the only major flaw Iron Man 3 has. They pulled some kind of Batman Begins twist on us. Yes, I didn't expect it, but they turned Ben Kingsley's Mandarin into a complete joke. I understand that Guy Pearce was the real Mandarin, but having him spew out a line that has him saying that he's the Mandarin in the very last second doesn't count. Ben Kingsley was awesome when we thought he was the Mandarin. Then it just ended up as one big joke.

It's not as good as the first film, but I do believe that this sequel is possibly a little underrated and underappreciated. Because it is very entertaining. The action is greatly combined with a kick-ass soundtrack. Robert Downey Jr. does the same, great and witty job he did in the first Iron Man. The ending might be a little bit lackluster in comparison to the other action sequences and the whole Avengers set-up might distract a little. Still, it is top-notch entertainment.

I've seen that some of the complaints about this film is about Mickey Rourke as the villain. That he is not developed enough and underused. Strangely, I disagree with that. I don't personally believe that there would have been any point in developing him further. He doesn't appear to be a interesting character to begin with, so that they decided not to expose him too much was a great idea. I think he is more sinister that way.

A solid, old-fashioned blockbuster. It is very entertaining and works well as an origins tale. It is filled with good performances. Chris Evans is surprisingly appealing in the leading role and Tommy Lee Jones is always a blast. Still, it is Hugo Weaving that really makes this film. He is absolutely wonderful as the villain. He is just as menacing and sinister as he should be. For me, he is easily one of the best Marvel villains so far. I do sincerely hope that he'll return for more.

What keeps the film from arriving further up at the list is that it's really not anything special or different. The action is great, but it is never anything that's totally extraordinary in it. It's just some very solid entertainment that I enjoyed.

Another Marvel film that is very entertaining. The action in it is great with spectacular special effects. It also features one of the best ensemble casts so far in any Marvel film with the talents of Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgård. It's entertaining nearly all the way through with the "fish-out-of-water" elements being the most enjoyable ones. Still, it doesn't manage to be among the very best Marvel films. Which is simply because of Hiddleston's villain Loki. He is done justice in The Avengers, but I find him to be rather poor in Thor. I don't never really see him as an actual menace in this one. Then there is all the other evil thingy's that doesn't really appear to be any threat whatsoever.

And, this is basically just for the whole Avengers-stuff. I don't think Thor fit's in to be honest. While the film does nicely blend in with the other Avengers-films, I do have a hard time making Thor's inclusion believable. I mean, he is a God. I know it is all fiction and etc., but he's a God. I'm just struggling a bit with that. Oh well.

It wasn't as good as I previously thought it was. It is still fun, Sam Raimi's take on it is fun, Tobey Maguire is good as the hero and Willem Dafoe is wonderfull as the villain. So, my new problem with it doesn't lay there. Because I still think it is fun.

It's just that I think the romance is so forced that it hurts. It's overly cheesy and sometimes painful to watch. Kirsten Dunst is cute and Maguire is great, as I said, but their interactions with each other is just... Bad.

The Amazing Spider-Man

I personally believe that The Amazing Soider-Man does the best job, out of the films so far, in portraying Peter Parker. I think that Andrew Garfield, despite being way too old to be an 17 year old high school kid, is exceptional in the role of Peter Parker. He manages to get the social awkwardness that Peter struggles with down to perfection. This is the cause for a lot of great comedy in the film. Garfield's take on Peter Parker is loads of fun. His chemistry with Emma Stone is also undeniably great. She is also much more effective as a love interest and not anywhere close to be as annoying as Kirsten Dunst was in Raimi's Spider-Man-films. The film does a great job in mixing the comedy with drama, Garfield and Stone is a much better duo than Tobey Maguire and Dunst, but that's not where this film struggles. Because, the bit that has to with Spider-Man is a bit underwhelming.

There is not really much Spider-Man fun. Certainly, the way he toys with car thief is amusing, but there is rarely I'm really enjoying the action in the film. Not that the effects are bad or anything, it's just that I did expect more from a Spider-Man-film in 2012. It's a bit underwhelming, a bit disappointing. I also think the film skips and jumps too fast over certain things in the way Parker transforms into Spider-Man. While it does address the same plot points that Raimi did in his Spider-Man, I personally think Parker's evolvement to Spider-Man is too sudden. Yes, we do already know the story, but this is an origins film as well.

One thing that also feels a bit underwhelming is the villain. While Rhys Ifans gives his best shot, I believe that he is wasted in this film. The Lizard is just not interesting. This is a poor villain, that appears to be way too cartoony. He is never given any proper development and Dr. Curt Connors sudden turn into a evil Lizard is just not that interesting or enjoyable. His interactions with Spider-Man is also surprisingly lackluster.

Used to be a film I really liked when it first came out and I was around 13 years old. I do still like it to a certain degree. Not because it is a particularly good film. It is actually on the edge of being a poor film, but I'm just having fun whenever I see it. One thing I like about it is that it knows exactly what it is. It never tries to be anything more than some campy, glorified B-film. The effects are a bit goofy, like the design of the Ghost Rider. But I liked it. Nicolas Cage is also fine in the role. Him going over-the-top suits the character the way he is portrayed in this film. He's also not as tiresome as he is in the sequel. It also features a hot Eva Mendes and Sam Elliott. Sam Elliott is always a plus.

I do however wish that they would have gotten a stronger villain. Wes Bentley as the main antagonist is very dull. Not to mention that the acting he's showing of his just weak. It doesn't really help that the element-villains-thingy's are even weaker. But it is still fun, though.

Well, I remember absolutely nothing from this film. Only that it had given it 6/10 rating, so I obviously must have thought it was slightly entertaining. A revisit is due perhaps?

With the danger of repeating myself. Long time since I saw it. Remember it being the same thing, just a bit duller. Remember Ryan Reynolds being awful and Jessica Biel being hot.

Spider-Man 3

Bigger ain't necessarily better. It tries to be as grand and epic as possible, but it's ambitions is clearly higher than the final result. Because it is a mess. Certainly, the effects are spectacular and the action is quite good at times. But it does never manage to get a grip on it's story. I like that they try to explore the darkness in Spider-Man, but the romantic aspect of it takes way too much time. The chemistry between Maguire and Dunst is absent, and when the darkness in Maguire then results into him going "emo" it's getting fairly ridiculous.

Then there is the fact that it just can't handle three villains at the same time. Venom is easily the coolest villain and his effects are great, but judging by the way he is portrayed in this film, I say skip him. He is not done justice. That he is being played by a weak and whiny Topher Grace doesn't add any glory either. Screw New Goblin as well. Please. They should have focused on just Sandman, as he was easily the most complex villain in this film, despite suffering from shared screentime with the other two villains. Combine Sandman with the darkness within Spider-Man, as well as less Dunst and romance. Then we could have gotten a treat. Because now it is just big, spectacular mess.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Yes, I liked Ghost Rider. I thought it was campy fun, and was eagerly looking forward to this sequel, in hope for some real trashy fun. And I was slightly disappointed when I saw it. There is some trashy fun here, but it's not nearly enough to justify all the poor things in it.

The effects are great, and while I liked the original design of Ghost Rider, he does look much cooler now. Shamefully, I feel that the 3D makes the effects look less cool. There are some awesome scenes, like Ghost Rider pissing flames etc. (Most of the scenes with Ghost Rider are quite cool) Yet, nearly every scene without the Ghost Rider is a letdown. I think that Nicolas Cage is a good actor, but I'm starting to get a bit tired of him being a lunatic, and over the top. The script is as expected poor, and the villains are even worse this time. There are some cool scenes, but not enough to justify all the pure trash in it.

I barely remember this film. Campy and goofy, but not as fun as the first one is what I can recollect.

I'm a bit ashamed that there are so many entries on this list that I can't remember enough from to write proper thoughts on them, oh well.

It's been a while since I saw it, possibly many years, but I really disliked it. Despite it featuring two of my favorite actors in Sam Elliott (who is still always a plus) and the insanely beautiful Jennifer Connelly. It was such a disappointment. All that nonsense babble, uninspiring action and the fact that it was just so boring.

Hiring Ang Lee to direct it might have been why it's such a mess. While the script certainly is boring, I remember there being nothing in Lee's direction that could have possibly made this film watchable. 3/10? Yes, it does feature Sam Elliott and Jennifer Connelly.
