Depressing, but satisfying. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is at his best. What a wierd, cool, sad, smart story.

With such a huge cast (De Niro, Thurman, Murray) you'd think more people would have seen this. Underappreciated and over-looked, this is a smart film with great, under-the-radar humor.

As I'm typing this, 6 of you Listal users have seen this (well, rated it anyway). Great, natural performances highlight an endearing film with a lot to say, and a very clever construction. I watched it twice in 2 days and again later that week.

A strange, strange film loosly inspired by the Herman Melville story of the same name. Dry humor and quirkier than 98% of the films that get labled quirky. Not for everyone, but well worth a look for those searching for something different.

Don't be fooled, this is not a "Sports Comedy". And it's not your typical "indie-comedy" either. (You know, the kind with the Ultra-hip soundtrack, the cerebral, smug, self-satisfied irony, and the nausea-inducing amount of under-stated quirkiness.) No, this is what I like to call a good comedy. Maybe even a great comedy. And like all great comedies it also contains a respectable amount of pain. Shame. Fear. Self-defeating behavior. All the things that real people run into now and again during the course of their real lives. These are the things that some of the most rewarding comedy emerges from. Well, that and from fantastic writing. Which this movie has in spades. This is a really well told story about two friends who battle with, or sometimes simply come to terms with their inner demons, on and off the court. Be the first of your friends to see it!

Could definately be a 'not for everyone' film, but I think most viewers that sit down to it with an open mind will find themselves extremely rewarded. The story revolves around a New York on-air radio personality and storyteller who is paralyzed from the waste down and a fully abled woman who desires more than anything to be a parapalegic. Such psychological disorders really do exist; the extraordinary part is watching the story unfold and reveal itself through the remarkable performances and script construction.

Tough, sometimes brutal, film that tells the story of some twisted, conflicted, and mixed up people. It's a criminal/police detective story that rises above most other films in it's courage and unpredictability. A real sense of danger seeps off nearly every frame.
