I picked this up at Costco in December with the intention of reading it right away. It sat on my 'to read' shelf for a while, and I happened to pick it up and start reading it the week that John Updike died. Creepy! It ended up not being anything like what I expected (I haven't seen the movie, and didn't know anything about either). For some reason, it took me three times the amount of time it usually takes me to read a book to finish this one. Finished 2/27/09

I Am Scout: The Biography of Harper Lee

Ever since I first read To Kill A Mockingbird in 7th grade, I've been totally obsessed with it. I've read it multiple times. Recently, we did it at the theatre where I work. This book (the only official/authorized biography of Harper Lee) was passed around by the director and cast for research, reference, inspiration, etc. I knew I needed to read it, but also knew I needed to wait til I was a little removed from the show to be able to read it. I got it used from Amazon.com for $3!!! I started it last night, and will most likely read it in spurts here and there. This book ended up being somewhat of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it was still pretty good. But it was rather dull, and no where near as good as I expected from what the Mockingbird cast had said. Started 3/9/09. Finished 3/19/09.

Twilight (Twilight Series, Book 1)

I read this book when it first came out a few years ago and loved it. Anyways, the movie is coming out on DVD this month, and I haven't seen it. I thought I'd take the opportunity to reread it before I see the movie since it's been a few years since I read it. Plus, a bunch of people at work are reading these books for the first time, and for some reason I want to reread them now...I realize this takes me off the course of finishing stuff that's been on my "to read" shelf for a while. Oh well...what's life without a few guilty pleasures?? :) Started 3/10/09. Finished 3/13/09.

Excited to start my first book post Twilight Series Reread. Awesome. The structure of this book was fascinating. I loved the way it told two stories at once, the story of the scientist and the story of the book, by means of structure and what not. Great book!! Started 3/22/09. Finished 4/2/09.

Another re-read for me. I first read this book while I was studying abroad in the spring of 2006. I absolutely loved it. I realized I couldn't remember much about it, so I decided to read it again. It's just as amazing the second time around--if not better! Started 4/3/09. Finished 4/7/09.

This movie was one of my favorites as a kid. I found the book for $1.98 at Half-Price Books on my day off. I had been wanting to read it for a while, so it was meant to be that I found it. Started 4/13/09. So I started this before leaving for Illinois for the summer, and when I got here I had ZERO time to read. I have since had time to start reading again, and plan to pick this up and finish it soon.

Now that both of my shows here at Illinois Shakes are open, and I'm not working 14+ hour days any more, I have time to dig into my stack of books to read again! I can't tell you how strange it was to do for WEEKS without reading. It was really awful, actually. Anyways, I picked this up because I absolutely LOVED Kate Jacob's "The Friday Night Knitting Club" and its sequel "Knit Two." "Comfort Food" took a little while to be able to get into it, but now that I am, I'm hooked. Now that it's finished, I'd still say that I loved it. It had some very predictable parts to it, but sometimes I like when things work out just like we predict/want them to in a book. So I didn't mind, especially since I think it was meant to be a feel good book. Started 7/1/09. Finished 7/7/09.
