If literature was food then this would be the starving persons feast, well for me it would be anyway because I devoured this and like all great books you enjoy it was over far too quickly (understandably, seeing as it's a novella) and yet if it went on any longer I don't think it would have been anywhere near the same.
There's an introduction by Stephen King (at least in my copy) with a line that I found to be very true "he will leave you wanting more" and if you watch the movie, do yourself a favour and read the book because in my opinion a movie could not do justice to this book especially with that ending.

I agree Midnight. A great book, that definitely leaves you wanting more. As for Biscuit's comment, I guess it depends on the person as to how scary it is. I've been so immersed in horror literature and films for so many years, it's hard for me to find something that genuinely scares me, but it does have plenty of eerie and creepy moments. It's really the story itself that grabs you though - a real page-turner.

Midnight, have you seen the 1964 film 'Last Man on Earth' with Vincent Price? It was based on this story as well. It was a good film, but it doesn't do justice to the novella either. Also the film 'The Omega Man' with Charlton Heston was based on it, but I haven't seen that one so I can't compare it. George Romero also cited I Am Legend as one of the main inspirations for 'Night of the Living Dead'.
