Review of Cliffhanger

Review

I first saw this film on Christmas Eve one year and it defined the year for me. What an epic! Another hyper violent action film that I was watching at a young age when I should have been sleeping. The most laughable thing about this film is that John Lithgow is in it. His appearance made me hate him for the next 10 years, and I still can't stand him! A totally unconvincing villain (especially against someone of Stallone's prowess).

Stallone is a mountaineering expert plagued by memories of the death of his friend in a climbing accident. He spends every waking second blaming himself until some hapless crooks kidnap him and force him to recover their stolen money. Cue a cat and mouse chase as Stallone manages to escape and consistantly scupper their plans. I always felt sorry for the collateral deaths in this film, which is an achievement I guess. I'd watch it all again just to see Sly hanging from a snow covered cliff wearing nothing but a grubby T shirt.
