This was the game that let me know I was born to be a gamer. Sure, I'd been playing long before I got my hands on this title, but all the contenders before it, even the mighty Zelda, paled in comparison to the Epic that is Final Fantasy.
The graphics come straight out of an early 80's style anime. It was precisely because of these graphics that the game was able to draw me in! I mean, the monsters looked incredible and so did the characters! And the way I could customize their stats and equipment really made me connect with them!
I remember during school, how I'd be sitting in class thinking of how I needed to level so-and-so up and go find that special suit of armor for them when I got home later. I mean, I made plans with fictional characters for cryin' out loud! Any game that could push me over the edge of dorky, and imperil my social life for eternity...MUST BE A GOOD GAME!
Don't forego a chance to play this game on the original NES or Famicom, if you can. The GBA remakes are noble, but the original has its own flavor. Definitely one of the Gems of the Golden Age.
