I don't know if it's just because I don't like boxing or because the movie was crap (I'm going for crap) but I was bored with this pathetic attempt right from the word go. I realise that a Clint Eastwood film isn't worth watching but I wanted to know what everyone was on about. Obviously I am a sucker for punishment.
I knew it was a bad idea as soon as I started to hear Morgan Freeman's raspy voice narrating and then add Eastwood's even raspier voice and I had great difficulty understanding anything these people were on about! It's what I imagine it would be like for a semi deaf person being stuck in a room with people who mumble.
What could've been done in an hour and half was drawn out for over 2 hours. Really drawn out as if trying to force feeling from the viewer by driving them mad. It did succeed. In driving me mad that is. I'd love to take the dvd and burn it, but a piece of tripe like that doesn't deserve my energy.

I totally agree with you.
A friend lent me this movie saying I'd love it. By the end, I was going, why the **** did I waste my time with this crap (that is what this is!).
Still don't understand what everyone is raving about. Acting was crappy, and yes, the raspy voices didn't help either. (Truth is, I AM a semi deaf person! and I concur with what you say.)
Glad to see someone FINALLY sees the crappiness in this movie.

I agree. This has got to be one of the most overrated films ever. Oscar winner? IMDB Top250? ????? I think everyone feels 'politically correct' in saying this movies is great because of the topic at hand (should they pull the plug on someone in a vegetative state?) when really, I wanted to see a great story about a female boxer, not a morality piece.

One thing I disagree on is that Clint Eastwood does once in a while make an masterpiece (Letters of Iwo Jima was mind-blowing good, and let's not forget the awesome Mystic River).

And normally, I am into boxing movies (Cinderella Man, Rocky, Raging Bull are all awesome films) but this one was way too cheezy, and as I mentioned in my review, someone with big white HUGE teeth like Hillary Swank is about the worst casting job I've seen when picking a 'boxer' actor.
