Overrated Classic

I have to agree with the top most voted review on this film, so let me say that again: The TOP voted.

This film is way overrated. Almost everything says this film is powerful, intense, shocking...well, I don't think so or believe so. Instead, I think it's really overrated and definitely in some parts boring. And it also really doesn't help that Deniro/Scorsese fans keep calling this a "masterpiece" Okay, I can understand why some may like it, but I would never call this a masterpiece. And, the fact that there's even an account dedicated to Martin Scorsese fans, proves my point perfectly. And yeah, it may be a classic, but just because it is, it doesn't mean it's good, that's just a phrase for "well-know". This is proof that not all the classics are good. I even found this quite pretentious honestly. Also, people say all the time that Travis Bickel is cool and is a great film character, well to me he was just an ordinary guy who was misguided. An easily forgettable movie character. Again, it seems I'm in the minority.

Jodie Foster was great, as always. I think De Niro is okay, but it's certainly not his best performance, he never was a favourite of mine. Scorsese films are really boring, and they're all the same thing, just a different film title. I'm not a fan. This film has got be one of the most overrated and boring films ever. Just like most of his films...

So, yeah, overrated, boring and now thanks to the creepy obsessive Taxi Driver fans, it's now pretentious. Boring story, that has nothing to go on. If you saw something in this film that I didn't, you're either delusional, an idiot or a liar.

Hey, this gets my vote. I like contrary opinions! I haven't seen this one yet...or the Godfather films for that matter - all of which people rave over. I did watch the Deer Hunter awhile back and your review here reminds me of the one I did of that movie...disappointment and mild wonder at how overrated it is.

You can take a look at it, if you like...

Anyway, nice review. I have even more respect for someone not going with the crowd or general consensus and being brave enough to speak their opinions. :)

I don't know if I'll like this one...one day I will find out but I think I'm holding off to avoid disappointment. Who knows...

Deer Hunter, I rated a six. Wasn't so impressed to be honest, I think it's just something for De Niro fans to indulge themselves in, not that I would usually care, but since it holds a place in the IMDb 250, then that's when I get mad and pissed.

That term 'disappointment' is exactly one of the ways I'd phrase this film. The critical acclaim, the high ratings and of course it's place on the IMDb 250...but it really doesn't deserve it. It's really overrated, and I wouldn't recommend it. But, it could always be your type of film, I can't really say, but if you do get around to it, look forward to seeing your review, if you do one. Thanks though.

Hmm. Okay?

You use up to four paragraphs to tell us that film is overrated. I see nowhere any arguments why it's so, save that comment about the film being boring. Which itself isn't an argument at all, it's an effect but what is the cause?

And also it's hard to say whether I or anyone else for that matter saw on this film something more (or different) than you, when you don't tell us what you saw.

And I say again: Term "overrated" is overrated. Art is subjective and thus all the opinions are equal (arguments behind the opinions necessarily aren't) to a degree but not of a same value...

And don't get me wrong here. I am not saying you cannot bash this film, surely. But doing it without any valid points and arguments to contradictory, you really don't convince me even on a fact that you really have seen this film. And thus I consider that value of your opinion is nonexistent.
