A concert film of one of my favorite bands, made during their most interesting creative period.
Unfortunately it's not that good. The editing is choppy. It's painfully obvious that this was edited together from two different gigs because in one shot mr. Cave is wearing his black jacket and suddenly in the other shot he is not wearing the jacket any more and he is on the completely different part of the stage altogether. Sometimes he is jumping, wearing a t-shirt, hair a mess and sweating and then *CUT*, and suddenly we see him kneeling at the edge of the stage with his jacket on and in a completely different mood. This kind of idiocy happens throughout this one hour concert film and gets very annoying.
This editing doesn't even serve any purpose because it's just disorienting and way too fast, in the most blatant music video style possible. Why isn't one performance of the song enough? The stage antics aren't even very dramatically different. Besides that the cameras can't stay still and it gets very difficult to enjoy the whole experience when you can't just watch the band perform. Mr. Cave is a very dramatic stage persona and it would be enough to watch him do his thing but it's made impossible by the imbecile cameramen and editing which serves no purpose.
The cinematographer hasn't taken into account the bright lights used at the Paradiso, so every skin colour in the film is either bright red or deep blue. The music is of course good (The Carny, Papa Won't Leave You Henry, The Mercy Seat, The Weeping Song, The Good Son...) and the audio quality is fine but how can I enjoy these songs completely when the visual department has made its best to ruin them for me? I could very well listen to Bad Seeds' albums instead.
