Review of Young Frankenstein

A classic

By now, I have seen most of the movies directed by Mel Brooks and I'm afraid I'm not really a fan of his work, expect of course 'The Producers' which is by far his best flick, in my opinion. Indeed, when watching this movie, I had about the same feeling that I had while watching 'Blazing Saddles'. Indeed, for both movies, I was expecting to be blown away by some hilarious jokes but, eventually, even though I enjoyed those two features, I was just smilling from time to time and never really laughing out loud. So, I guess it is not my type of humor, unfortunately. Still, it remains a very well made feature, probably the most impressive visually speaking by Mr Brooks. Indeed, it really gave the feeling of those old horror movies from the 30's. Furthermore, it is actually a great idea to turn this classic story into a comedy since the plot is, when you think about it for a few seconds, actually completely preposterous and ridiculous. The cast was pretty good and even though Gene Wilder is the big star as the title character, I above all enjoyed Igor who was stealing the show everytime he was on the screen. To conclude, I liked it, it is a classic and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Glad you appreciated it, even if it didn't reach your expectations. Comedy is very subjective...what's funny to one person isn't necessarily funny to everyone (and it seems most of the films I find funny you don't find very amusing). Maybe you should just lower your expectations any time you're about to watch a comedy no matter how great anyone says it is. ;)

Totally agree that Brooks did a wonderful job of capturing the look & feel of '30s horror movies.
