What an amazingly honest and very sad film. Fassbender was amazing (deserved at least an Oscar nomination) as was Carey. The sparse apartment, the explicit sex, the forlorn face just expose the torment of the character of Brandon to the audience and we can easily buy it through Fassbender’s raw performance.
The cinematography was beautiful, the use of muted cold colours reflected Brandon’s reserved, lost and conflicted state of mind whereas Sissy’s bold colours represented her wild, unpredictable yet vulnerable disposition. These two opposites collide and resonate into the performances of the respective actors.
In conclusion, one of the best films of 2011, should have been recognised by the Academy Awards.
