The first time I saw this flick, something like 10 years ago, I didn't like it and thought it was very lame. However, since I kept hearing good things about this movie, I thought I should give it another shot. I still don't think it is something amazing but I appreciated it more the second time around. Indeed, it is still very cheesy, sentimental, stereotypical and there is literally not one single line of dialog which doesn't sound like an inspirational speech. Still, there is a nice cast (Denzel Washington, Donald Faison, Kip Pardue, Hayden Panettiere, Kate Bosworth, Ryan Gosling), Denzel Washington was just born to play such roles and was definitely convincing. The material is really uplifting and even though it is a gross simplification of race issues, it remains a well made and entertaining sport drama. To conclude, it still think it is rather overrated and simplistic sport drama but it does work pretty well and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
