Ah U2; quite possibly the absolute nadir of music. I really can't say anything positive about this band sans "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "In the Name of Love" are decent songs. Other than that, their music is vomit-inducing to my ears; soulless, sterilized, corporate, insincere, and lacking in any conviction. I wouldn't have a problem if U2 occupied the same place in people's minds as Tears for Fears or Hall and Oates; cheesy crap that was once really popular but now only causes embarassment. But no, if a serious music fan were to declare "The Joshua Tree" as one of the greatest albums ever made, nobody would think of his/her taste in music as any less. Why? If I said that "Can't Slow Down" was one of the greatest albums ever made, I'm sure people would think less of my taste, and they really are on the same wave length. Every U2 song consists of the same elements; The Edge's delay peddle effect (god, Joey Ramone was a more inventive guitarist than this guy) with Bono rambling some half assed poetry about nothing in particular, and then the big sing along chorus comes in and we're all inspired and happy. This crap has not only made them one of the biggest bands in music, but also critical darlings, lauded by every major music source. I HATE PEOPLE
I suppose I should talk about the album a bit instead of just my hatred for this band. It really is a hard album to talk about because it's just so bland. It's like reviewing this wall I'm sitting in front of; what the fuck am I supposed to say? It's a god damned wall. I will say, however, that the three big hits from this album, which I imagine are all people listen to from this album (nobody would actually subject themselves to "Red Hill Mining Town" or "Trip Through Your Wires", would they?), are ALL THE SAME FREAKIN' SONG. No really, don't believe me, then try this; in your head, sing the verse to "With or Without You", and when you get to the chorus, sing the chorus to "I Still Haven't Found...". Fits together perfectly right. That's a sign of being uncreative and lazy; perfect words to describe this band
