Following his tremendous success, like many directors before him, Wong Kar Wai finally deciced to make the move to Hollywood. Unfortunately, I'm afraid he made his least appealing movie to date. I mean, there is a nice cast (Norah Jones, Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman) and they all delivered some decent and the directing by Wong Kar Wai was, as usual, really gorgeous and rather amazing but, still, the whole thing didn't impress me. I think it has to do with the fact that Kar Wai has a real artificial look and way to direct his movies but usually, since those are rather spellbinding to watch, it is not a big issue. But, this time, it was almost boring to watch perhaps maybe because the English language and the American language don't fit well with his style or maybe it is just because the story was actually plain and simply weak. Still, I really loved the directing (too bad he makes a movie only once every 5 years!) and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Wong Kar Wai's work.
