This movie is done perfectly. A great soundtrack, a great cast, and well acted thoughout the film. Some people may not enjoy it because, God forbid, they think a little. The movie is an abyss of meaning, you just have to actually work for it. The dialogue is minimal because the audience must use their faces and gestures to pick up on common human gestures. The film is smooth and very well done overall. Each shot is different and precise. Each car chase is shot differently, and for a reason. And no matter what, there seems to be a meaning for everything. A lot of effort was put into this lower budget movie, and it shines brilliantly. I saw it the opening weekend and just could not fathom the words to put together how great it was, I still can't to tell you the truth. I have seen it two and a half times already, and can not wait for it to be on Blu Ray/DVD.

The next time someone says that Drive is pointless, we should just tell them that Abduction is currently in theaters, so, you know, they can just go see that. lol

Lmao, i completely agree. After I saw Drive and went to sleep last night, I woke up with even more depth and thoughts. whoever says it is lacking obviously need to learn how to interpret and undedrstand things lol

The interesting thing about the movie is the total vacuum of emotion, allowing the audience to project their own thoughts and feelings on the characters. The characters are basically empty shells, much like that mask.

Why do u think it is a vacuum of emotion? Each clenched fist, each face has subtle changes over te course of a few seconds, each pair of eyes holds something. The mask represents his knee nature being released, that he can't hold back any more. Instead of hiding behind it, he embraces it for a brief time based on his instincts to protect and delve into things he wants.

I wasn't feeling much (if any) emotion from the Driver character, felt like a vacuum to me. He's just not a good enough actor to pull it off. Ed Norton might have pulled it off or John Cusack, who's made a career out of tortured characters. Even they would have struggled with the thin characterization in the script. We got some story about the girl - married young, not in love with her husband etc etc but nothing about the Driver.

That was the point. The Driver is meant to be anyone, a person who is always in the background. A person that can be a nobody and wants to be a somebody. The girl asks Driver if he just moved here, even though he's been there his whole life. He wears a mask at his day job, is an everyday mechanic, and at night is a getaway driver. Who ever remembers the getaway driver? He was pulled into their story, and at the end, released his true "scorpian nature."

When I watched Drive, I was nailed at my seat. I couldn't take my eyes off of Driver, not because of Ryan Gosling, but because the Driver was so intense, so subtle, one blink and you could miss something. (Anyone btw notice how he barely blinks in this movie?) It is really NOT void of emotion, it is in fact filled with it, you need only to look and see. Every move, every tightening of the fist, every stare, everything speaks of it. He is so... off with all of it, hard to read, but still reachable, all that really spoke out to me. Anything more obvious and it would be your everyday movie.

Youre right. He spoke so much with expression as well as with what expressions he didnt use. Fantastically done.
