Description

French colonists round-up "recruits" for an army to attack the German outpost across the river after learning their homelands are at war. Only a young geologist (Jacques Spiesser) attached to the French fort objects to the insanity and unfairness of it all. French director Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1976 simple but brilliant piece won an Academy Award for best foreign film.
