Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, MacDonald got his start as a songwriter while attending UCCB in Sydney. Like many Maritimers before him, he moved west to Calgary in the late 80's looking for a change. In moving away, he discovered the importance of his roots, his history and his love for the Maritimes.
