Riverside Blues -- King Oliver 1923 It is generally accepted among jazz connoiseurs that Joe "King" Oliver's Creole Jazz Band was the finest Black jazz band ever to make public appearances. With relatively few changes in personnel, it functioned brilliantly and very succesfully at the Royal Gardens in Chicago for about 6 years between 1918 and 1934.
